Hi All,

I have for sale a Cooke 9-50mm Zoom lens. For whatever reason I've had it sat on my shelf for ages doing nothing. I have it's big brother the Cooke 18-100mm which I use all the time.

The Cooke 9-50mm Zoom is a beautiful little lens. Lightweight. T 2.5. Possibly the most solidly constructed 16mm lens around.

My lens has literally hardly ever been used. I have the invoice from Arri UK that I will provide in the sale and can be seen in the pictures that shows the lens was bought new from Arri in 1991 on May 23rd (I've blacked out the previous owners address). It was originally bought for £5640 which is about $8000 with the current exchange rate. Apparently he passed away and the lens sat in his wifes loft for 10 years before she asked a friend to sell it. I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago and have hardly had it out of the case I'm sad to say.

As such the lens is in mint condition. Almost factory perfect in many respects. The focus and iris are buttery smooth and even though it's 16mm the images it can make are sublime. They have that rich Cooke feel that it's big brother shares.

I had hoped to keep hold of it till the Scarlet 2/3rds arrived since this lens will perfectly cover Red's projected size chip for the Scarlet. However, needs must. If it doesn't sell then I genuinely won't be too worried as there is plenty of life to come for this lens.

It's in Arri bayonet mount but I've included an Arri Bayonet/Standard to PL mount in the auction. I've tested the mount briefly on the lens and it doesn't appear to quite have the correct back focus when I put it on. I would think a good camera tech could put the correct shims in to get it spot on or just get it hard mounted PL.

Also included in the sale is the original manual that came with the lens. This is the only Cooke maintenance manual I've ever actually seen lol! Pictures of the manual illustrate the contents and a few pages/pics etc. Full of every last detail you could wish to learn about the lens!

So all in all you are getting the following:

  • Cooke 9-50mm T2.5 16mm Zoom lens (Mint Condition - Full history - Fits 2/3rd chip comfortably)
  • Aluminium Lens Case with foam cutout (Solid, neat and tidy)
  • Zoom Stick
  • Arri Bayonet/Standard Mount to PL Mount adaptor
  • Front lens cap, rear lens cap and rear optic cover
  • Original Manual
  • Proof of origin
I'm asking $1850 for the lens plus cost of postage. I have seen these lenses go cheaper (About $1200 the last one I watched on eBay) but none of the ones I've seen were in such good condition. This lens has never been rented and as states rarely used.

I'll happily ship anywhere in the world once payment has gone through completely. Payment can be made by bank transfer, bankers cheque or paypal.

PM me or send emails to paulclementscx at gmail dot com.

If these pictures aren't showing you something (Goodness only knows what) let me know.

Many thanks
Paul

Thanks Martin.

I thought I should point out that for those who don't know, I am UK based which may or may not affect postage times and costs. I will try and get a price tomorrow for posting to the US. I've listed it with a dollar price because naturally there are more potential buyers globally and especially in the US and dollars makes sense to use.

Thanks
Paul

A such gorgeous lens for 120fps slow-motion shots on R1MX and I'm still thinking and counting...

Hi Sanjin,

Yeah it is good for 2K. It's difficult to get really wide slo-mo with the Red unless you use something like this at 9mm. It's fov is a bit wider at 2K than the 18mm of the Cooke 18-100mm (35mm) is at 4K. To get that same fov at 2K using 35mm lenses you'd need a 9mm lens supposedly which simply don't exist in a quality and price that is suitable for most.

If you wanted to match the fov of a 4K shot and a 2K shot and your widest lens was an 18mm prime or zoom (35mm) you'd be limited to using a 36mm lens at 4K and the 18mm at 2K... I think that makes sense! So having a wide 16mm lens is, as you infer, great for 120fps.

Cheers
Paul

Postage price to the US would be $65 (£45) using Fedex.

Thanks
Paul
