  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PELENG 8mm Fisheye

I just bought a peleng in canon mount. I have a birger coming (ordered in mid december) and will be using canon lenses. I don't want to have to take off the birger and mount the pl to use peleng. I'm typically swapping the fish eye off and on fairly frequently in my work, so I'm preying it will work.

We shot with the PL Mount version last week...It's a great look...The iris did not seem to make much of a difference....Nice "gimic" lens for the Kit.

The key will be to get the rear element ND filters for this as you want nothing
in front of this lens!

Some explanations:
Many RED users would like to use a Peleng lens with Canon EOS mount on their RED cameras with a Birger adapter.
Mechanically it's possible. But there are 2 main problems.
1. the technical parameters for a glass part of the Peleng lens have some inaccuracy. For lenses with PL mounts we pick lenses with a highest glass quality (that is approximate 10% of all lenses production). Other mounted lenses may have a bit lower quality of glass uniformity and coating.
2. Commonly Fisheye lenses have a very deep field of view. That' why there is a problem to achieve an appropriate sharp focus of close and remote objects at the same time especially if a wide aperture is used.
For this purpose we adjust all lenses with PL mounts at the movie production facilities. The adjustment is made by professional engineers that have a big experience.
A fisheye lens quality that is generally good for photo shooting is not always good enough for movie production. I'm afraid that people who use the Peleng lens with Canon EOS mount and Birger adapter will not achieve the same quality as people who use the same lens with PL mount.

The lens with PL mount has 3 additional light filters in the set but none of them is the ND filter. The filters are orange and green that are used mostly for special effects and the UV filter that is generally used for film cameras.
The rear ND filter for Peleng lens does not exist. You may try to find somebody who will exchange colored filters to the ND one but we can't do that. We may only supply with the extra set of filters if anyone wants to try.

wow.... ok so. order the PL glass.. gotcha... thank you for the info...

any difference between ordering via your site? or ordering via ebay?

anyone making the ND's ??? Doug?

Since I will be using this lens outdoors most of the time, I'm very much in need of swapping out the color fx filters to UV. Anyone out there doing this?

Generally there is no any difference to buy Peleng PL lens from our web www.eastwave.ca or from eBay site because we sell 100% of this type of Peleng and all eBay sellers with Peleng PL lens are somehow affiliated with our company .
But for any other types of Peleng lenses there is a difference . Currently we are the main partner of the manufacturer to promote the Peleng lens on the world market . We get 80% of the production and the main point is that we make our special quality control . Our controllers separate lenses with the best coating and mechanics. The rest 20% of the lens production the manufacturer spreads around the globe among different sellers. Sometimes all lenses are good but sometimes.......
To be guaranteed we recommend to buy Peleng lenses from our web or from the sellers who sell also Peleng PL lens on eBay .

We also can make Zenitar lens with PL mount but we don't know if it is reasonable for the market because Peleng is a special artistic lens while Zenitar lens is mostly works as a regular wide angle lens . Any suggestions about market demand for Zenitar PL lens would be appreciated .

Peleng 17 mm is a very interesting lens. We have been pressing the manufacturer for many years to restart the production of the Peleng 17 but without success. However we have not given up .

UV filter has only a sense for film technology but for digital cameras UV filter is not necessary

Well if you could make Zenitar PL's for about the same, very reasonable premium that you do for the Peleng 8mm's... I'd buy it in a second. There's no other new prime lens in that size for that price currently in PL (or any mount for that matter). Plus, it just so happens that I have a hole in my lens kit that it would fit nicely into right now too - I also like its field of view (adjusting for Red's sensor size @4k). I can't speak for everyone though.

Oh and I can say the same thing for the Peleng 17A - although it seems less likely to happen with that particular lens since they aren't manufacturing it anymore.

any sources out there for NDs to fit peleng 8 ?

The price has not jumped up yet .
It is a bit different from EURO due to the volatility exchange rate.

I received shipping notification four days after I paid for the lens I ordered through eBay from East Wave. There was no tracking number; email said item mailed and should arrive in 14 to 18 days.

Good shooting and best regards,

I got my Peleng delivered within ten days after ordering, but that was quite some time ago. Don't know if things have changed since then.

If you like the Peleng, you won't have any trouble liking the Hartblei "Super Rotator" lenses, made in Ukraine.

Great stuff.
