Do you have to pay for everything in one go or can you pay a set percentage every month?

All in one go.

Or you can always rent, data wrangler with Scarlet available and willing to go to the UK if needed... PM if interested

As Eirik has already mentioned, you have to pay for everything up front. You could always get a bank loan and pay that monthly, but I wouldn't recommend that.

What do you need? I can do EPIC Rental here in the UK and DIT. PM me if interested.

Steve

RED could move a LOT more cameras out the door if they had some kind of in-house lease program

RED does work closely with leasing companies currently our Bomb Squad Reps have information that can be provided if asked.

This was not known. Im now a bit intrigued. could make that move up to the epic from the scarlet a little easier. :)

Thanks for the info guys! unfortunately I'm not looking at renting as I'm wanting to shoot lots of different projects so money wise it would be cheaper to buy one for myself.

Hence, a lease might be the ideal way to go for you.

not really as I've worked it out if I rent one for 26days I will have paid the same amount as it costs to buy one, and if I buy one I can use it everyday of the year which I won't be able to do if I rent. :)

Leasing is not the same as renting. Renting is a short term use fee charged to you by a rental company for a few days or weeks of use of their equipment. Leasing is a method of financing equipment where you pay a fixed amount of money each month for a certain number of months and you keep the equipment and have use of it every day. But you don't actually own it until the lease is at the end of it's term and you pay any "residual amount" or balance that is still owed on the item.

id lease an epic if they'd buy my scarlet at the bank for a decent price...wonder if those financial places would do that? everyones looking to move up at these prices!

A lease can be better than buying with cash for tax reasons, as it is seen as an expense (write off entire payment) rather than being depreciated over time.

At the end of the lease you may have a small payment to "buy" it at the end for next to nothing, or negotiate the lease so it's paid off as of your last payment.

Either way you still own it at the end, it's not the same as renting.

In addition, sometimes it makes it cheaper. In Australia they can't charge GST (tax) on a lease like they can for a tangible item, so if you aren't registered to get the tax back you save an extra 10%.

Just got a call from a fellow REDuser saying I should chime in on this thread.

First off... you can either lease or finance a RED EPIC (or Scarlet, lenses ect) through an equipment leasing/finance company. The difference between a lease and a finance agreement/loan is all in the documentation, particularly the end option. On a lease, the invoice from RED would be "sold to" and "ship to" the leasing company/bank. At the end of the lease term, there will be a residual ($1, 10%, 15%, or fair market value) needed to be paid before the equipment is yours free and clear.

On an equipment loan/finance agreement, the invoice is "sold to" and "shipped to" you/your company and ownership is with you/your company from day ONE. This is the way you want to do business with RED, especially with upgrades down the road. If you finance on a lease, technically your bank is the one entitled to the upgrade and is the one that must executed it. Financing via an equipment loan/finance agreement is the way to go. You are still entitled to immediate depreciation savings via IRS Section 179, while stretching payment out over 3-5 years.

Shoot me a message if anyone wants more information on our financing programs. I've been working with REDusers since 2006 and have a reference list of happy REDusers than have used WB FINANCIAL for financing.

I saved up 4 months doing gigs left and right to buy my brain in cash!!! Totally worth it, the hardest part is buying it piece by piece when u can't even use it yet!!! Took an additional 2 more months to have a working rig.

I can vouch for Nicholas Fitch and WB Financial Services. Professional, good rates, straight and to the point, friendly and not pushy.

A word of warning: I would suggest to stay away from a company like American Capital Group. They are also in Southern California. They're extremely aggressive and are higher in their rates. I inquired with them about their financing options camera equipment in the past. Don't even inquire with them because if you don't go with them, they'll lock in your contact info, different sales reps will call you every couple of months, passing your number around to each other to ask you if you are still trying to buy equipment. I tried several attempts in writing, over the phone, to ask them to remove my name from their calling list, and they actually told me, there's no call list, their obligated to just call me over and over.

Just FYI~ I think this audience of RED users would appreciate the heads up to stay away from American Capital Group

You can see on their site they offer financing options for all types of cameras. http://www.americancapitalgroup.com...Video-Studio-Equipment-Leasing-Financing.aspx

Long story short: Go with Nicholas Fitch & WB Financial. I'm a happy RED user because of them. They're great! http://www.equipmentleasingspecialists.com

Thanks for the endorsement Larry! It was a pleasure working with you.

Any REDusers interested in financing should feel free to contact me direct with any questions. I can walk you through the entire financing process. I would also be more than happy to provide additional references from other happy REDusers we've provided financing for.

Without saying anything bad about other lenders out there, I can say that WB Financial's entertainment division dates back over 23-years and we have particular expertise in getting freelancers financed. That being said, we've financed camera gear for various media professionals- from rental houses to advertising agencies.

For anyone wanting to do some shopping, or place an order with RED at NAB next month... we are offering pre-approvals for use at the show! I'm sure RED has some exciting new announcements coming...

follow-up question as it might be interesting to potential international customers;
