Peli cases are fantastic BUT for airline carry on, be careful as most now have weight restrictions in place. Also from a safety point of view, if this falls from an overhead compartment I for one wouldn't want to be under it

We use Think Tank cases for travelling as they're light and don't attract attention - they look just like a regular carry on case. They're expensive BUT worth every penny!

yea that's true. I've seen them enforce 25 pounds as the limit in some cases. I haven't had an issue... yet, but if there's one thing we know about airlines...

At what point do we start worrying about a lack of protective foam though? I have this pouch set up on my 1510 and while it hasn't damaged any of my equipment (and has been HUGELY beneficial for chords and everything), but this trek pack looks to have very little foam also.

At some point it would seem we're turning this into just a briefcase with a bunch of expensive stuff cramped together without foam...

The TrekPak walls look like they're better engineered than the pick and pluck (which I use a lot) or velcro Pelican options. It looks like they've got stiffer foam on the exterior and an air gap between. I think that may give you more protection than straight foam. I'll have to order some to experiment with.

The regulation is for >160wh... REDbricks are 140wh. And sometimes there's a quantity limit, too (e.g. only allowed two batteries of ~150Wh) and it can be different for carry-on vs. checked luggage as well. It also varies from country to country, so you're going to want to double check.

Is the TrekPak $200CAD including the 1510 case or do they mean the Trekpak foam box insert + the dividers? $200CAD seems pretty cheap for a 1510 WITH inserts.

Asking myself the same question, I wrote them an email but didnt get an answer yet. I hope $200.- is for everything ;) will let you know when I know more...

We are always 2 when we travel so we have a bit different setup. However we can pack a whole Epic setup and lenses in 2 backpacks. That way we can carry them on our backs. Haven't had a problem with them on our last trips.
Kata 610 - Epic, lenses, harddrives. about 15kg
Petrol PD335 - red primes, harddrives, canon 5d, canon lenses. about 15kg

On our suitcases we packed big tripod, batteries, led lights, most cables etc, mattebox.
The good things with this setup is that it's very transportable. You can actually carry your camera and full lens setup into the wild with the bags you have. Looking at the pelican setup you get much more into it. The good thing with the Kata is that I can put the Epic assembled into it so I can have the screen and lens on ready for action. The Petrol looks more like the pelican with tons of pockets for stuffing things into.

Hi Andreas, do you have some pics of these setups you could share?

I have seen some cases in development that simply blew me out of the water.. They were amazing. They are high end cases that's for sure, gonna cost more than these Trek things, but man.... Talk about gear porn. :)

I'll be sure to talk more about it when I can. But if I were to do that now... I'd be shot.

Generally how I fly with the brain:

hIrdh0A.jpg

-Epic
-Cine Arm 2.5" and 5" lengths
-2x RED Bricks
-750 IR and 3-4 ND filters
-Handle
-AC Brick/Cable
-Rocket Pump
-LCD in a cinebag (including the cine-arm, cabling, wrenches, stylus)
-Quick Release Platform
-SDI cable
-RED Mag 1.8" Mini and USB cable.

It all fits.
