  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

P+S Technik IMS Interchangeable Mount System report

...any new developments here?

Had a talk with Simon from P+S Technik (sales office) on June 6th, said they're having two lists - reservations vs. interested. I signed up for the first. Due to Simon there should be a press release from P+S about the Red IMS within the next 2 to 3 weeks. I think as they work with Sanjin's cam, he could already have made some experiences. Sanjin?

Maybe he's busy working on bringing Croatia and Austria into the quarter finals of the Euro2008? Well, Croatia already made it.

Cheers, Fritz

I wonder if they can solve the warranty issue. I don´t want to loose the possibility to upgrade to Epic. Thats what holds me back on going the IMS route.

Or after One Year Warranty your RED would be "free" of any RED warranty and then you can do what ever you want.

After that One Year Warranty always exists option to re-install the original RED-PL mount and then you could sent your RED camera to RED HQ for exchange to EPIC.

Also during waiting for PST IMS on RED just playing golf as much as I can do daily and also watching football (UEFA 2008) here in VIENNA.

A nice waiting lens mount therapy.

IMS mount cheaper, no warranty issues, starts shipping in about two weeks

Hey guys,

good news from Munich:

Dear friends, partners and clients of P+S Technik

We are happy to inform you about the latest news regarding our
Interchangeable Mount System (IMS) for RED One.
To implement the IMS on the RED One is much easier than expected in the
beginning. The replacement of the whole RED front is not needed anymore.
Due the fact that only the original RED mount needs to be replaced by the
P+S Technik IMS, no warranty limitations will be damaged. If needed the IMS
can also be re-exchanged to the original RED One mount. The thermically
characteristics of the RED One front will stay the same after this IMS
modification.
The simplicity of this exchange makes the shipping the RED One to P+S
Technik unnecessary. It can be done by everybody with a technical basic
understanding.

Consequently we could lower the mentioned price in the beginning of 1.500,00
to 680,00 Euros only. The article number is 24209

Shims to collimate the IMS will be included in delivery as well as an
instruction.

...

If you want to receive your already reserved IMS for RED please send us an
order for the article number 24209. The expected delivery time will be 2
weeks.

That's great news!

Cheers, Fritz

EDIT: And Sanjin, I'll bring you some fine South Tyrolean red wine to Vienna next week - you earned it!

Do they refer to just the Red PL mount or the Red PL Mount and adjustable collar? I assume both if shims are required to collimate.

I think if the unit is going to accept all the different lens mounts they offer that the back focus adjuster would have to come off. I believe the shims they speak of are to zero in the basic lens mount mounting piece to an individual camera body. That way their different mounts will be interchangable because they are individually manufactured to a given standard.
I assume that they have done tests to determine that their unit is thermicaly (sp) stable enough to work that way.

Amazing news from P+S Technik!

My RED was already three times in Ottobrunn / München to help in development of IMS on RED.

In between I've got RED EVF.

The next is IMS and then Birger (!?).

P+S Technik also will have a look in possibility to include adapter for Birger EF (later Nikon G lenses) on IMS.

Then we would have all mounts available on RED:

Arri PL Mount, Panavision Mount, BNC-R Mount, Professional (Nikon) F-Mount, Nikon F-Mount,

Canon EF-Mount, Canon FD-Mount, Canon Birger EF, Contax Mount, Leica-R Mount and Leica-M Mount.

Hi Sanjin,

Since they are using your camera as a test bed, have you heard about how much thermal exspansion takes place when the RED back focuser adjuster is removed from the camera body? Why I ask is that I wonder if the flange focale depth shift is due in its entirety to the lens mounting system or if some of it has anything to do with how the sensor is mounted.

Chuck,

I do not have so much news about developing process but

I can accept and understand this condition.

All what I and many other RED users need is this universal mount on RED

that can make our daily life with a camera much easier.

Hey, if this thing works I won't have to read the remaining 73 pages of the Birger thread...

This is truly amazing. I love when technology, engineering, and creativity meet.

Do you happen to know if they are in talks with Red, so that Red could install the IMS from the Factory? This would be a win-win-win situation for Red, P+S and us Red Owners.

Grüß Gott nach Minga, Grüzi nach Wien :)

I don't know what kind of optical testing equipment RED has at their plant, but I would tend to want an optical person with the proper equipment to set up the mount the first time. There is more to it than just setting up the intermidiate piece to assure proper interchangability of the individual lens mounts.
