  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Origo Record stop/start button

Got mine yesterday, works great, all that was promised. Waiting with baited breath on the rest of my Viewfactor goodies...Hang in there Curt and the gang!

We won't happen to see this battery feature on the follow focus will we? Right now I am just setting my watch for for 100 minutes and changing the battery then.

Matthew
I could probably do that on the impero.... it wont have a set of dedicated leds but I can multitask some existing ones.

I would LOVE YOU if you could do that. I'm only using Third party batteries and it would be great to know when I need to swap out batteries on the dual v-mount (although, I've pretty much been running off AC as much as possible just so I don't have to worry about the battery issue)

Guys, I noticed one issue with our cables... our CM didn't put any locktite on the threads of the collets for the cables so there may be a problem during shipping of the collet nut working loose. If you receive a cable that has any problems then feel free to contact us for the new and improved locktited version. Or if you are an enterprising type just back off the nut a few turns and put a dab of medium strength locktite on the threads and re-tighten.

If you do use Locktite, the 222 or 242 series is adequate. If you can not locate these, then a trip down to your local store, or lady friend's vanity and use a small drop of finger nail polish.

Yeah, definitely stay away from the MEGA hold loctite, you'll never get it off. BTW Wes, hows the appendix doing?

Curt, can you share the voltage readings you got when evaluating it for Origo. Most Broadcast cameras have a battery near end warning at 11.9V and a battery end warning at 11.5V.

thanks
Manuel

Manuel, Here are the readings I used to make the voltage monitor on origo... These are averages that I got by testing about 5 red batteries. Regardless of the battery used, the behavior of the camera at the measured voltages is consistent. If you use a battery other than Red's then the times will vary but the camera (if it could talk to the batteries) would show the same value. Battery warning came up at 12.8-13.0 V and camera shutdown at 12.3-12.8V. It behaves differently when on DC power coming from the powersupply since its not getting the data telling it that the power is going to go bye-bye. Light blue in the graph is the battery voltage vs. Red One displayed value. The dark blue? (sorry I'm color blind) is the Red One displayed value vs time (minutes). Keep in mind that I started at 75 on the camera and there was no recording or fans turned on during the test so don't mis-construe the time with being at all close to what you would have during normal operation.

Finally ordered one... don't know just why I'm so slow sometimes.

Seems this has a contender for one of the highest cost/value/usefulness RED accessories out there.

Many thanks.

Just received mine.

I ordered it at NAB for use with cranes and helicopters, thinking it was just a pretty basic necessity, but wow, this thing is so much more. I really like the start/stop beeps and the battery indicators; don't want to shoot without it again!

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Yep, got my Origo the other day. It's a must-have accessory. Now that I have it, I don't know if I can ever work without it.

Got mine too. Great piece of equipment! Highly recommended.

Good Luck, let us know if you have any problems that we can help with.

Hey Curt, whats my number?
Paolo, If you haven't received an email from us with a serial number then you're probably >#165. We will be sending out emails with serial numbers for the last batch here in a day or two.

I've been testing Origos with 2.5' and 30' cable lengths, and I have a custom 10' cable length version on the way. In short: Origo rocks! It's amazing how a small simple accessory can be such a big help.

BTW - I'm also field testing Origo installed on the right handle of the prototype Element Technica shoulder brace. Being able to start/stop RED One from the handle of the shoulder brace is a huge help - can't imagine having to fish around on the side of the RED camera body for the start/stop button for each shoulder held shot. Origo dances quite well with the proto ET shoulder brace.

I'm also using Origo on the handle of my tripod. Among other genres, I shoot a lot of nature and action sports. It's great to be able to start/stop the camera from the handle ( which I'm used to with other camera systems) while I'm also tracking the subject matter by panning, tilting, and racking focus. Before Origo I'd have to have one hand near the start/stop button on the camera, hit it, and quickly get that hand out to operate other functions of the camera.

I'll use the 2.5' cables for tripod, stabilizer, and shoulder mount work, and the 10' and 30' cable lengths for jibs and time lapse work.

Good job View Factor...

Paul, Origos should start shipping again any day now (mid-August), according to something I read from Curt a few weeks ago. But don't recall where it was, to refer to it again.
