  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I am thinking of buying a red and was wondering if I made the purchase within the next week when I would likely receive it? Thanks

Serial numbers 201- 600 Begins November 30th (400 units)

We made the decision today to hold production so we have the fewest amount of cameras to retrofit. I do not have a new confirmed schedule, but will post one as soon as we know exactly where we stand. It is most likely that 101-200 will begin shipping November 30th and 201-600 will begin shipping December 10th.

We are going to be a bit late on the December deliveries due to fine tuning and production ramp up of the new lens mount. I can't tell you an exact date that we will begin shipping but it should still be early in the month and we do expect to get the full amount of scheduled cameras out by month end. The delay should not affect future delivery schedule.

Good news is many more features enabled for serial #100+ deliveries and a much more solid platform. Plus the image has improved. A little late but worth the wait...

I think buying a RED is like buying a ticket on the first commercial spaceflights... you buy a ticket while they are refining the rocket. The first buyers get the opportunity to fly on the test rocket, while the ones later in line get to ride on newer, uncrashed rockets.

Take a number and wait until they get safer rockets. They will tell you when your number is up. Meanwhile, we got this cool forum to cry, laugh, argue, bust-on.

(Sorry for the above... it's just that I've got all this time on my hands while waiting for my number to come up.)
 
But Jim said that this camera probably will never get finished..... jump in when you think it looks good. It looked good for me from the start.

No 30th of February, though at 2008 there are 29 days on February.
I am sure someone reacted on that before but I just had to write something on this forum. Everyone seems to be so wise and knowledeable about the Red and I had nothing to write...:mail1:
 
yea that's been talked about over and over... a simple mistake from a very busy man.
 
It won't the middle of next year unless there are significant delays. It'll be more like sometime in May. The middle of next year is the end of June.

ya know, im #707, delivery date... after december the 30th... something tells me i aint gettin' it til feb. or prolly end of jan. But i do darn get excited every day that I am one day closer to gettin' the darn thing. For all I know is when I get that son of a gun, i'm gonna shoot real hard. Focusing on the target. And i'm pretty sure it will be one hell of a holistic experience every time i hold the freggin thing. When i turn the iris on that canon 70-200mm lens with the birger mount... the sound of the aperture churning as i step it down. the noise of the fan. the lovely bokeh... and the 120 fps 2k shot run at 24fps of a dirham (coin) flickering slowly in the air, the slow mo of an arabian horse blinking its eye. A Flamingo standing in the desert. A w12 touareg breaking sand dunes. A Falcon held by a 3 year old child, their eyes meet... in solitude. An old man gathering red/black/white/green sand from every end.

Solitude. Is what I call the wait for Red One.

It's Jan and looking into buying the beast. I have no idea what reservation numbers are like at the mo or delivery dates, i think i may have convinced my production company (based in EU) to get one. If i were to order this month, when should i be expecting it approx? I know its tough to predict and appreciate all efforts on the manufacturer side but any indication would help thanks.

My best guess would be sometime early summer 2008
