  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Order and Payment Unofficial FAQ

What do you mean report the purchase through to NY? You mean provide a NY address for delivery?

Most states that have a sales tax require you to pay sales taxes on out of state purchases by declaring it directly to the state.

Could somebody either post the details of how and where to fund a red account by bank wire, or provide a link to this information?

This thread needs to be updated, something like:

"Closed Beta was started Nov. 17th. RED is currently accepting orders via phone/website in a limited Beta which should start Mid-December. General Availability of the RED SCARLET via the website will be March 1st."

Edit: It's mid march now ... Scarlet seems to be shipping at full volumes, order times are reasonable given the type of camera this is ... also the camera will be shipping soon with version 3.0 - so no one should be worried about technical issues. My Nov. 3rd scarlet btw has been extremely stable.

I read several times that once you get your order confirmation, chill out.... RED will charge the card and ship when ready...but I haven't been charged for any of my 3 orders except the deposit for the Scarlet body. I'm reading that people with higher SO #'s are receiveing accessories a week from when they ordered...

I ordered at 1am on November 4th, a Scarlet x AL Body plus individual accessories. My receipt showed what I was being charged "Today" but that charge has never shown up...

I'm super confused on how all this is supposed to work, Think I might have gotten hosed!

Seems like a weird style of transaction that you would place an order, put in Credit Card info, get a receipt that says what they are billing you "Today"...and then nothing....Do I have to call to complete it??? No where did RED mention that.

Time to call I guess

"March 1st"? Since when?

That's not what they told me when I ordered our Scarlet-X w/AL Canon Mount/side SSD, in November. They said December.

Has something changed?

I wish our Red Bomb Squad rep would answer my emails quicker. When we bought our Red-One he responded much, much faster, almost within the hour. Those guys must be busier than a lone flea on a dog. ;)

No, he's just trolling.

A curly one, I have a wad of US cash sitting in a paypal account. Does Red have a Paypal account, anyone know? As it seems crazy to convert my US funds into Aussies then get it reconverted to US again via my credit card. Any suggestions, as there must be others in a similar situation.

You're going to lose a few hundred bucks in currency conversions and transfer fees if you do that.

If you have a trusted relative in the US who already has a US bank account whom you can transfer that US money to, that might be a better idea.

? I didn't have a intent of trolling

If someone ordered a camera today ... from everything I hear, reasonable delivery date would be March(Febuary is the date RED has given when their factories are fully functioning).
As far as I know, no AL Scarlets have been shipped from web orders(i.e. people that were not at the event). I don't believe red has stated when non-event Al orders will start shipping (at least I don't see any as green/red on the spreadsheet), my guesstimate was mid-December.

@ Sean, Thanks for the suggestion,. but you don't know my relatives ;)

It's a problem for us Aussies, 1st paying credit charges, than foreign X charges, then just to make it that much sweeter, GST when it lands in OZ ( fortunately tax deductible). Maybe I should open a bank account in the Caymen islands!

I guess another alternative is to open a US dollar bank account in Aus and transfer your Paypal money into that account so that it retains the US currency and you will not be charged currency exchange fees. You'll still lose a little bit of money in the transfer but it would be a nominal amount (check with your bank what fees are involved though).

HSBC for example, has a US dollar account option.

I'm just trying to think of ways for you to get your money out of Paypal without converting it back to Aus dollars first.

The only other possible thinnest of alternatives is - a couple of weeks ago the Aus dollar dipped below the US currency so if you had transferred your money over then, you would have either (i) gained Aus cash in the process, or (ii) you would've come out relatively even because whatever you gained in the exchange would have covered the transfer fees. I don't know when the Aus dollar is going to dip again though.

I've had my eye on purchasing a Scarlet for a while, so earlier this year when the Aus dollar reached parity and beyond with the US dollar, I opened that US dollar account with HSBC and transferred some money into that account. Before the Nov 3 announcement, I waited and waited until the Aus dollar bumped up again before transferring more cash over. I gained a chunk of additional US cash from waiting for the right moment (more or less) which is now going to the deposit and shipping costs for the Scarlet with some extra cash to spare which is going to remain in my Red account.

Hey Sean,

Great hint about HSBC. I will look into it tomorrow. Still be preferable if Red had a Paypal account. Thanks for the tips.

How does the pricing change on Jan 1? Can this be added to the thread? Thanks.

Posted by Mr. Jannard here.

Price for Scarlet-X, including Brain, Side SSD and Canon aluminum mount (auto-focus support) is $9,750 if ordered before December 31st, 2011. After Jan. 1st, 2012 the price for Scarlet will be $9700 for the Brain only.
