Ive had my Optitek nikon mount for the epic for about a week now, and Im loving every minute of it. The mount is solid, easy to use, and well worth it. Of course the glass Im using goes well with the epic, I think. Ive got the G series lenses, so Im using the nikon mount to manually control the iris.
In film mode, I just use a bartech and give the AC the handset. This gets around the backwards focus of the nikon lenses, and allows for focus range expansion where a large turn on the assistants dial equals a small turn on the lens. This also gets the assistants hand off my camera - which is usually fine but theres always that moment.....
In DSMC mode, its just like a nikon camera with the Epic sidehandle and EVF. I treat it like a big F3. The EVF setup I have forces the camera a little more to the right than Id like. But Im a big guy and can adjust.
Heres a couple of sample pics: 85mm @1.4.
85mm @1.4. In the full res you can see my reflection in his eye.
70-200 @200mm, 2.8. I didnt use HDR, but theres a little more detail in the intentionally blown highlights.
50mm @1.4. Not a great image, but look at the brokah. Also you can see how far I am from the lens while looking through the EVF, as hes looking at me but hes looking way off the lens.
The attached pic is the mount on todays shoot. You can see the M-one mounted. I use the 15mm lightweight and brooks stealth plate with an ET v-dock to the bartech receiver to make the camera as small as possible.
