  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Couch Potato Filmmaker

Well, as you saw, I did bring the actors to the monitor and spoke face to face with them. I worked directly with them at rehearsals as well. I wouldn't say it's worse - there are limitations - but the thing that's better is you aren't affected by whatever is going on in the room - all you see is what the camera sees - so in that sense - I found it to actually be better in some ways.

I remember being told a story about France Ford Coppola directing ‘One from the heart’ from a control room. I think it was considered one of the reasons the film didn’t work. At least that’s the reason the guy who told me the story gave. I’m yet to see it.

Interesting. Well, check it out. The feeling over here is that it worked extremely well. Looking at Mr. Coppola's track record the last decade, there might be other reasons the film didn't work IMHO.

Sweet! We're just saying it's the first time on a low budget movie - to shoot a whole sequence this way. We might be wrong.

That was awesome! Kudo's dude for being able to pull that off.

There's two reasons we didn't go.

A. Cost - we shot the whole sequence for $2500 - just going and staying there would have added 50% to our costs. AND

B. Schedule - we were in the middle of reshoots in Los Angeles and there was no way I could make it work schedule wise. VFX needed the shot we were getting in Korea right away - so I couldn't push the Korea shoot, and because of actor availability, I couldn't push the L.A. shoot.

Doing it this way made it so I could be shooting all day in Los Angeles, and come home and conduct castings, location scouts, tech scouts, and rehearsals in Korea at night. Traveling alone would have eaten up 3 days if you include recovery time :) - then I would have had to cast and tech scout and shoot the scene. I'd say it would have taken me five to six days at a minimum including travel time - and that was not an option.

You should see the scene, it would not have turned out better had I been there in person. That said, I would love to go to Korea! I'd love it a lot!

Well done for making it work. Props
