Specifically:

18: 5000 -> 6200
20, 22, 24, 28, 35, 40, 40, 60, 75: 5000 -> 6000

S35d

Darn it!

I was about 4 years away from having the funds to buy a minimal indie filmmaker set... Now I don't even want to know :umm:

What are the prices on the Red lenses again? Maybe I shouldn't have posted this ;)

The prices for Elite lenses are originaly/internaly in US$.
That's the foreign currency in Russia.
The difference in the price in EURO is manifesting, because EUR to US$ changed from 1.6 to 1.25.
So the price in the us$ is still the same.

Considering quality of Elite lenses:
they have absolutely comparable optical and mechanical quality of Cooke S4i lenses. Some Elite lenses are little bit better, some are same, and some Cookes are slightly better.

RED prime lenses do not exist at the moment, and will not exist for a long time. Even when they come out, people will wait again, for a long time to receive them, since many owners would want to buy them.
Also, they will be T1.9 (maybe), and in focal lenghts of 25,35,50,85,100.

Elite lenses can give You T1.3 now, and You have a choice of 15 different focal lenghts for primes.

It's only a question when do You want to start making money, today with some cine lens or in 12-18 months after receiving RED lenses?

Regards

DISCLAIMER:
I don't work, nor have any connection with the Optica Elite company, nor Cooke company.

That's not entirely true. Elites are really good lenses and as for resolution and CA on T2 and more, they're comparable to Cooke S4's. Although they're a little "warmer" then the Cooke's, which I find to be nicer.

When opened up to T1.3 they go soft, this is the reason why Cooke don't make their lenses open up. I find this "softness" to be nice and very suitable for RED so this is a preference thing, but don't forget that Super speeds will go soft as well.

As for mechanics you can't compare them with Cooke's. There's no doubt that Cooke's are far more superior then the Elites on that. That's not saying that Elites have bad mechanics, not at all. They have very nice mechanics but they're not Cooke's.

All in all they have the same design and are very close in their "looks" to Cooke. I believe that Joe Dunton in London had a set that very often used to be second unit set for features shooting on Cooke S4's.

You could call them baby Cooke's.

I never mentioned T1.3 on Elites comparing against t2.0 on Cookes.
Ofcourse that on 1.3 that they are softer, as are also Master Primes, and Super Speeds.
I have made many test on t2-t2.8 and find what I have said previously about the difference in resolution and overall picture quality against Cookes.
it seems that I wrote it un-understandable.

I am busy at the moment, so I will reply on this a little bit later.

I'm sorry if it seemed as if I was having a go at you, that was not my intention.

I didn't say that you said that I was just filling in with some personal experience info.

So my plan of catching a plane to Russia and arriving at their doorstep with a suitcase full of Euros and a printed copy of the prices on their website wasn't going to work, eh?

What I don't get is that's Red waits so long to come up with this primeset. Because that's a real dealbreaker for most out there.

I prefer to own lenses instead of renting out always if I would have the choice, and the Red imperium would even rise a lot if they would release them.

I thought this was one of the largest reasons and issues in the very beginning that they would release them, but now it seems nobody almost seems to care in the meantime???

They're even introducing new optics on their sheets, but I'd like to see them release first what they've promised more then a year ago, because I'd love to own them and compare them to other ones costing much more but giving me a satisfying result just because they cost a lot less and can be used on smaller productions and if they have proven quality maby on bigger budget productions.

I think You should call Grigory, and make him an offer for a set which You want to buy.

As I said, You are paying the same price in us$ now, as You would pay when You read prices for the first time.
