Hi All,

On three different systems I have had the Log & Transfer tool fail to capture an entire R3D clip from the RED One. In some cases the clip has a final green frame. In all cases the clip with play as a proxy, or in the L&T viewer itself. It happens on clips that do not span multiple R3D files. In most cases, a second attempt at capturing the clip will be successful.

Systems vary from Macbook Pro, FCP 6.0.5, with the latest (v1.0) of the plug in, A Quadcore with (6.0.5 / v1.0) and a FCP 6.0.4 Octocore with the old beta plugin.

Any ideas, any others with the same problem?

I'm considering using Red Rushes to create Prores files for an offline. Then swapping those files out for the wrapped quicktime files when I am ready to send to Color.

Cheers,

Nils

Did you try recreating the proxies in RA?

I'm having the same issue with partial ingest of clips. Any luck figuring this out?

Also, is it ok to change the name of the clip i'm ingesting in the log and transfer window. Something like A045_C006_etc... to 3A-3. will this break the link to the original R3D files? Can i rename in FCP like i would with other footage?

Hi Michael,

It seems that the Log and Transfer of RED footage stops importing a clip if you attempt to do any other editing or logging at the same time. Perhaps this is less of a problem on higher spec. systems... anyone?

My work-around has been to let Log and Transfer do its thing, then manually check the duration of the imported clips against the list in the Log and Transfer window, re-ingesting any clips that failed to import the first time. This seems effective. Alternatively you could use Redrushes to produce footage for an off-line and use 'Re-link' rather than 'Batch Capture' to bring a project online...

I don't re-name any RED clips as I like to keep the file name intact in case I need to refer back to the original R3D. Instead I transfer all the slate information into the appropriate meta-data columns. This way you can sort by scene, slate, take, reel or whatever takes you fancy. But I don't think there is any technical issue with re-naming clips...

Cheers,

Nils

same problem here, but guess what, Hans has a better workflow fot the native R3Ds. just search for clipfinder and you will see his work flow. it saves time and drive space, beacause you only convert the actual clips you will use.

if only redrushes could allow quicktime native rewrapping independent of apple.

Thanks Nils,

I like to rename so that when i have the footage in the timeline I can see what take i'm using etc, without having to go to the bin and check against the file name.

I am finding the same thing with log and transfer. If i just leave it alone, it works.

The sequence number suffix on the end of the clip is critical.
You can change the base name all you want but keep the _00x suffix
on every R3D file.
