Hello all,

It's no secret around here that I'm "all 8K" these days. And funny to post such a thing today of all days, but.....

July 2nd, 2017 marked the one year anniversary of my journey with the RED Weapon Dragon 8K VV as well as adding the Weapon Helium 8K S35 into my kit. It's been a truly special experience along the way and I've had a lot on my mind.

During the summer I took a hot minute to reflect back on some things over that time and wrote up a big fat article thing for those that would be interested.

Lots of footage, stills, and thoughts can be found within. It's a bit bigger than a REDuser post, so here's link.

Enjoy.

Phil, In your article you state in regards to VistaVision size sensors "..........the motion cadence as detail is drawn across the larger surface area of the sensor provides a different "feel" than say Super 35mm. Action moving through frame feels different because it's drawing differently and in some cases provides more of a three dimensional effect if used deliberately. If you've shot IMAX 15-perf 70mm, you likely know what I'm talking about here." This has me intrigued but I don't really understand and unfortunately I have not shot any IMAX. Could you elaborate, please?

I'll be posting a few things soon. This, Salt VV, and one other very "on the nose" topic. An interesting experiment if you're super curious is to film Monstro or Dragon 8K VV at 8K with a 50mm prime and then at 5K with about a 35mm prime on a motion control rig. As controlled as possible. You will noticed a slight difference outside of the variance of the optics.

It's actually fun stuff. Larger formats demand you to work different. What a "normal lens is" and even what your typical working distances are won't exactly be the same. It's a different world and a different level of intimacy with your subject matter IMO, not in a creepy way.
