Hello Red Community,

Hoping someone can confirm this for me. When shooting RAW, does choosing your color space; (709, RedWideGammut, etc.) matter when recording, while you can just change the color space in post?

I’m asking because I’d like to shoot my newest short in Log3G10 with a “to.rec709” lut, or should I just shoot in RAW with the color space 709.

Is it like ISO, where whatever ISO you’re shoot with while recording, that dynamic range dedication to the highlights/shadows will stay the same, even if you change ISO in post.

Thank you!!

For monitoring it matters, but for REDCODE RAW Color Space and Gamma are non destructive. You can change this in post via the SDK or Color Space Transform fairly easily. With the current color pipeline you would be going from REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10 to whatever you want.

More or less this is one of the biggest advantages of a RAW codec, besides a few other key metrics.
