  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OK... REDCINE-X time.

Just not there yet.. still alot of work to do on REDCINE-X ( hence the alpha )..

... Hopefully by Monday we will have another Alpha to clean up some of the remaining bigger bugs. Things will go dark for a few weeks after that last Alpha as the guys re-tool for the first Beta.

RocketCine development will still continue during that time though, expect some pretty cool things from Deanan on that front.

Great, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. The app looks great by the way. It's going to be an immensely useful tool, not to mention that fact that you guys are handing it out for free.

Hey just a reminder as people are forgetting.... This is Alpha.. No support. Don't be emailing Brent or the bomb squad support for REDCINE-X please..

Thanx!

Just a question... how many are using RedCine-X on REAL PROJECTS?
I'm just thinking, since this is a Alfa and not being supported and it is recomended that people DON'T use it comercialy , it would be "cheating" to use such a product and charging for it. (although I belive most people do, and so would I !)

It really seems like the industry is changing. It used to be that I (as a post house) charge good money for a service, partly because I bought it expensive but also because I'm paying good money for support. Now everybody are charging as little as possible for something that might not even be supported.
I'm not saying that is wrong... it is just a change....

I dont personally care if people use this app for production use .. if people want to open themselves up to litigation from their clients if something goes wrong it is their decision not ours.... all we can do is tell people the warnings so they dont turn around and try to shift the blame.

What i do have a problem with though is giving people a peek behind the curtain and telling them the peek is not supported, but ignoring the warnings and then calling us for help, emailing us crash reports, or giving us crap because things dont work yet. etc... that takes resources away from other places we need to be focused on.

It doesnt really matter in the end.. it just changes the way we will do things in the future.. Its one of those really dumb things that a few people can really ruin it for everyone else who for the most part all have been incredibly supportive with the alpha.

i think it might be as simple as opening up a section here in the workflow area for bug reports.. thoughts?

Yeah, I think a bug reporting section would be ideal. No offers of replies, just report it and go about your business while it's addressed by Red in their own sweet time.

The way you guys have set up your business it's a bit like screenwriting - everybody has notes, everybody has an opinion, no matter how bone-headed. Like a screenwriter, you just need to choose what you listen to and what you dismiss as crap. Let it all flow in without expectation of direct replies and it will be a useful tool without being too much of a pain in the arse.

Hey Jared...

Been reading these posts for a long time... you are too cool.
Don't let the Alpha questions in... the majority of patient and steady people monitoring your progress are continually impressed and thankful. The few that are reactive enough to demand immediate solutions should just be politely reminded.
Great work Jarred and team...!!!

anyone know - dual monitoring redcineX

anyone know - dual monitoring redcineX

once set up as dual screen layout, is it possible to save settings so Redcine+X opens that way, or do you have to re-configure every time?

best

Looks awesome so far. I love the clip editing ability.

I hope you guys consider a nice 3 way color corrector and some RGB Curves.

And while we are at it - let's not forget secondaries, compositing, surround sound mixing, audio engineering, etc... :emote_headwall:

Please remember this is a FREE software...

:emote_hippie: Peace,

I could personally do without the overexaggeration. This package already has a master curve. You really think it's a big deal to add RGB curves?

(and this software does support very pricey hardware - so I've never really viewed it as free as much as smart business)

Joel, I apologize if I came across overly sarcastic, but You did not just ask for RGB curves - You did ask for 3-way color corrector. RED Rocket might not be "cheap" product - but that has nothing to do with the SW. Many other 3-rd party SW companies will support RED Rocket soon. Assimilate already does. And on the other hand - REDCINE-X works just fine without RED Rocket. You obviously don't have much idea how much it costs to develop such a SW. This is nothing trivial or easy. I have myself developed full color-correcting plugin for Shake back in a day for a specific project...

All I am trying to say that we all need to realize that this IS a FREE software. It has nothing to do with "expensive" RED Rocket - wast majority of people will use it without RR. So lets not get too greedy...

Peace,

Peter

So lets not get too greedy...

RED wouldn't have nearly as cool a system without the tons of feedback they get.

Call it free all you want, but it's an integral part of the system that's being financed by hardware sales. How do you know $500 isn't added to every RED or RED Rocket to finance software development? The money to develop it comes from somewhere.

Also, if RED wants to offer a more advanced version for a few hundred dollars I think they'd sell many copies.

There's feedback, and there's telling a company how to run their business, as well as making uninformed presumptions about how they currently do that. What you just stated, to me, is the latter.

I prefaced my comments with "I hope you consider" and "I think". How can I better write that?

I've been on this board since I ordered a RED within the first 24 hours. I've seen a lot of people say some pretty tough things since then. I don't think asking them to consider a 3 way color corrector in RedCine is barking at Jim with marching orders.

But that's my opinion. Just thinking out loud. Try not to hold it against me.

That's not the part I was referring to. This is:

But never mind, I get your point.
