  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ohmygosh...

have you checked prices? This will be my third year going and even though I just booked yesterday, I paid less than I did the previous two years! Things are cheap now!

agreed, just booked online RT airfare AND hotel (wed thru Fri) for UNDER
$300 USD!

Or even warmed. Ever tried cask strength Macallan warmed up a bit? Oooh... Quite fantastic actually and the aroma was amazing.

I like the idea of that s35 fixed lens.

But for the next round of gear after this one oh wonderful wizard of Red, could you get the 617 made so it can shoot anywhere on other planet. No matter how cold it gets (or warm). With such an amazing sensor and range, there are so many places I'd love to shoot it in that a normal camera would hate being in.

Woo hoo! One more time around. I love this Jim and Folk. Thanks for making it wild.
I won't be able to make it down for the expo, but my head will be there. Hehe, I'm stuck in Rainy/Snowy Washington for the next few weeks.

I don't see the point of these constant changes (or actually I do), or rather I don't understand the way this is being handled. Sure thing, Red needs to follow the companies trying to follow them, and change is good, and info to the buyers/fans is good too. But fact is, they tell us things are changed without telling us what change is being made. Why not wait and tell us when you can actually tell us what the change will be. Maybe this time it's not radical changes, but to some levels just a series of adjustements. But lure me, if this won't affect prices (higher that is) and longer waiting time. This is, in my point of view, making the handling seem a bit unprofessional. Maybe I'm just affraid good things will change into something I don't need but still have to pay for. I'm sure cameras will only get better but at what costs? Hopefully none, neither prices or shipping dates.

I enjoyed meeting you last year at NAB Graeme. If you attend this year I hope I can enjoy the explanation of your brilliant code over a glass of Macallan, JW Blue or Sheep Dip. I won't understand it any better but I'll enjoy the hell out of it. Hope to see you there.

A good glass scotch with you, a good cuban with Jim. It could turn into more than a stellar event.

Best
Frank

A longer lunch break...

:yesnod: Oh, that is pretty much guaranteed. Almost anything they think of will make for bigger files, longer transfer times, longer review times. The bigger issue is what to bring to the barbecue, and does the film stock really smell awful when you use it as kindle 'cuz red made it really obsolete for you.

S35 fixed would cost about $8,000 or more on top of the $3,750 from the difference in cost of making a 2/3" zoom to the cost of a S35 zoom.

Sorry to burst the bubble. It was discussed extensively before and although the Red lens program obvious made some serious progress I can't see that happening... unless it was a 3k S35 with a fixed zoom close to the size and quality of the 18-50mm. Probably more like the 50-150mm but covering 18-85mm. At best you'dhave to pay an additional $2k... at very best. Though, again, I don't know enough about this to be quoted, just sayin'.

That sounds cool! Sometimes having such a French name so do I.
:couch:

Though I have a measure of hope that the French are coming back.
My last name might be cool again. Hopefully before I die. :)

Jim, will there be any info shared before NAB or is this it till then?

Ha peeps always go crazy when a change is announced. Making outlandish speculation. I'm happy waiting and the timing of the release is perfect maybe even a little early so yeah by all means take your time.

Eventhough there are changes again and we won't know what the changes are, I would still like to see more footage as the months progress towards the RED's New Dawn.

We all know some of our speculation is unrealistic, but Jim & Co know this was bound to happen with a thread that's, lets put it, an "invitation" to speculation :)

The main concern addressed by the community seems to be delivery times, and this is, of course, my main concern too. I remember Jim discussing the opening of the RED RANCH a while back, and I was already planning my US of A vacation to get the Scarlet package as well as a visit to the Ranch. I know it will be a very hard quest for a person living on the other side of the planet to be able to get the camera when its launched, so any delay would probably mean a much later real availability for me...

But I'm all for the "ultimate cinema camera for the people". You guys have the credibility with the RED One and the excelent Red Glass. You are a true cinema company, unlike Canon, for example, and I'm sure that, if you come out, dollar for dollar, with a competing camera, the focus on "cinema" and "motion picture" and its specific requirements will win the pro creative crowd.

hey macaense.. what have you been asking?.. canon viagra is on the way

If we are going to add our speculative wishing to the fray, I would really like to see a S35 sized sensor with 3k resolution. I honestly think it's a bit of a mistake to keep pushing the resolution up the way RED is doing. That being said, I don't know dick about designing a sensor and RED obviously does :)
