  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD shoots MX ISO 1600

Holy $%^&!!!

That is just stunning! I think back to the very first test I ever did with Red #378 in Shibuya two years ago and can only imagine what that same place is going to look like with M-X on board.

Thankyou very much for sharing Mark, it's much appreciated for those of us not able to make it to the US for Red Days etc.

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul

Hey Mark,
I am very excited about the upgrade. Were both of your cameras using the same settings in Redcine-X. One camera seems like the blacks are very purple?

Thanks
Eric

Hey is there any way we could see some frame grabs, cause i'm trying to download the file but I'm currently in Afghanistan and I only got 5.8 kb/sec transfer speed. At this rate I'll get to watch it tomorrow night, but I want to see something NOW!

Everyone with fast transfer speeds are so lucky right now! I'm jealous!

ARFFFF! Damm it, I need this.

incredible!! Please upload some short R3D.... Let me play with FLUT and this stuff, will be quite near sex!!!

Nice shoots lucky guys!!!

The footage is amazing!

There is only one thing that looked odd to me and it's in the very first shot. There is some sort of horizontal dark line over the frame which seems to be created by the road lamp on the right.

Never seen this with my RED1 but then again i almost never shoot iso1600!

Finally watched this properly and it's great. Well done lads. Wendy liked the footage too. No nasty aliases, no nasty noise, incredible handling of the DR. Great job!

Graeme next time Ill put a little spy cam in so when Mark is sitting next to me you can see just how calm he stays . Its amazing almost Zen like. lol

Mark made a typo earlier and did indeed say "clam", hence my comment.

So, since nobody seems to read the posts in this thread I'll attempt to repost my question hoping that someone knows what it is.

The street lamp in the first shot of the video looks like it creates a horizontal dark smear.

Is it a characteristic of the new sensor? Is it lens related? What is it?

The footage is amazing by itself so even if this vertical smear is something that we have to live with I don't really mind. It's too little a price to pay for all this amazement.

Is there any camera that can record cool tones in sodium vapor light? I guess it depends on the specific light fixture but if it's low pressure sodium, it's pretty much just the yellow, period... no visible blue component at all. If a camera can generate anything but yellow out of this spectrum, it's inventing that color out of whole cloth, so to speak.

Yes I know all that... I was curious to see the behavior of the noise due to the loss of color information on the kelvin shift.
