Just finished downloading that footage and although I haven't been to New York at night in a little while I really don't remember it being that light at night. Better than the human eye? Certainly less noisy than mine!

Just have to thank the mad scientists at RED
Did a comparison with a still shot from my Nikon D90 at ISO 1600 with a Zeiss ZF 35mm prime lens - MX is less noisy by a wide margin.

That's some scary clean footage you have there! Can't wait to be shooting. Rolling shutter seems to be a thing of the past, not that I had a big problem with it in the first place.

Wow. That is perhaps the first digital footage I've seen that is clearly better than film in low light.

It's so funny to see this stuff...this past Friday I was driving over the Williamsburg bridge from Brooklyn; the sky was mildly overcast, the perfect amount that soaks up all the city light and gives the buildings a nice separation from the sky...and I was thinking to myself, God wouldn't it be great to be able to see this how my eye sees it? Will Epic be able to see it this way? Now we know the answer to that question...

LOL! M-X sees better in the dark than my old eyes do!
Finally managed to download it.
Viewed it this weekend on a pretty decent color calibrated Gateway 24" graphics display and I thought the color rendition of the various light sources and illumination fields with all of their inherent spectrum shifts from car taillights to stoplights to different streeet lights, even the yellow flashers on the construction barricades, all was very natural looking. The classic over the river shots of the city skyline were spectacular and the water actually looked like water instead of pixelated mush.

To quote Soderburgh, " I love the way this camera sees light."

Skew: (not that I found it egregious on the m sensor) but is much tighter.
Flash bulbs: The m-x is still a rolling shutter. So loose flash bulbs still have the possibility of being captured as "half" exposures. (no surprise) However the read reset speed is fast so you will more than likely have less occur. Flashes should still be extended or synced if possible. Or the post solutions many use to compensate the unflashed section.
