  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Off the chart...

No 21?

Thank you Jim! You guys are awesome!

It's hilarious, isn't it?

Yes, it is hilarious. It's a scream that the chart didn't have enough DR to test the camera. And they haven't finished tweaking yet!

And don't forget the way the blacks looked in that non-HDR comparison to [that other camera]. So clean, every stop is useful.

Didn't someone name their R1 "Ansel"? Maybe they were a little ahead of their time.

There will be a private garage sale soon (I hope):

Eclair ACL
Sony EX1
JVC hm-100
Lumix gh1
Canon 550
RED ONE - wait a sec: SOLD to RED (stage 3)

Items will NOT be sold to RED-users.
After all you don´t want to hurt your friends.

This really amazing RED Team. . .

. . . but what is the DR limit of our various viewing devices? We'll have it. . . but will they be able to see it?

18 stops is exceeding what your eye can handle.. not what a display device can handle..
tone mapping is the thing everyone going to do to make use of these HDR images..

Cioni said it happened!

Jim

good enough for me!

When I chatted with him briefly at Red Studios Hollywood, Michael said something along the lines of: "sometimes these guys invent stuff and it's so far ahead of itself that even they don't fully grasp what they have invented, and they'll call me in to help them sort it out."

If they are bringing in Michael to help them sort it out, it has to be something spectacular, with far-reaching consequences for all imaging.

I have been waiting for this moment ever since Jim mentioned his plans for a "super secret HDR mode" at the NAB reduser party, and now...IT'S ALIVE!!

The real question is: how am I going to process all the juicy data that this camera can deliver??

Engine room, more steam!

At first HDR Mode seemed impossible... Once again RED.. Proving the impossible POSSIBLE, and then some. This camera is going to be unreal for HDR environments for VFX.

A modern LCD display is capable of about 10 stops (i.e. 1000:1 contrast ratio). Of course, a HDR image can be mapped onto low DR displays. The easiest way is low contrast. Tone mapping seems to be popular for HDR stills, but there are other methods as well. The eye is somewhere around 20 stops, but I have seen reports stating 24 stops.

Jim,

Thanks for the rough number (18 stops of DR before Gramme works his magic.)

Was this recorded to CF card? If so, is it safe to assume that it was the new 64GB card?
