Stephan Sommers and Mitch Amundsen just began shooting ODD THOMAS on EPICs.

From Mitch Amundsen, D.P :

"This is the first digital film for me and will evolve to be our normal way of shooting. This camera is the shit. "

From R. Todd Schlopy, 1st AC :

"RED EPIC with the Anamorphic build and Panavision 'C' series lenses... What an unbeatable combination. "

It most certainly seems to be what will become the baseline for Digital Cinema Cameras for a while...

Is there a specific anamorphich firmware build?

Cheers

1.6 is the alpha build with anamorphic support. Available to Epic-M owners for testing tomorrow.

OH???? This is MAJOR news for me if that is true! Please say so, you'll save me about a grand in headaches on my shoot!

sounds like i get a grand worth of chocolate heading our way tomorrow :)

Whew! MAJOR stress relief, you have NO IDEA... I was on set today shooting a JC Penny spot with my headset on TALKING to Hydroflex and the camera rental house and call after call... WHILE operating a Technocrane shot trying to pull together a work-around solution. But this one is MUCH better on many fronts! I can't wait to shoot 5K Anamorphic underwater... this is going to be pimp as all hell. Just you folks wait.

just remember Chris.. this is Alpha build.....

I'm aware of that, we're going pretty straight forward and I haven't had any problems in the last 5 Epic jobs in a row... However, does this build prevent going backwards to 1.4.9?

yes you can go back to 1.4.8 or 1.4.9 after installing 1.6 to test.

Excellent, excellent news. This is just awesome and I suspect not a completely random coincidence. I appreciate any pains it may have caused to get this out there!

One happy customer in this corner...

I still can't believe I have the same camera all these top directors and cinematographers are using to shoot big budget features. Thanks RED.

Couldn't have said it better -- and this is a badass story, really well deserving of the Epic treatment :)
