The sensor is mounted on a plate that can be moved along five axes. One purpose of this is to allow adjusting the back focus for different types of lenses, since Scarlet/Epic will accept so many. Sean Solowiej is also wondering if it can be used to accomplish tilt-shift photography. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilt-shift

The sensor is adjustable at the factory and repair centers in 5 axis.. The user/customer can adjust backfocus

Not sure where the whole USER adjustable 5-axis thing came from but it is not true. That would be a complete disaster if it was as 99% of people would never be able to set it back to correct :)

Haha I kinda figured that but I didn't want to say anything. Good to know though

Right, that does make sense... Thanks Jarred. It was a fun idea.

Did I just hear TED say in youtube video that Tattoo would start before the end of the year and phase 2-3 within a couple of months of that?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I heard that also. So if I were to place a bet I'd imagine we'd get to see Scarlet in our hands by the middle 2010.

Which means it'll be 12 months for FF35 if they stick to their old 6 month lag schedule. :/

Seriously $4K for a complete kit is UNBELIEVABLE, its such a deal. Not to mention the fact that it has 3K imaging, man I seriously can't wait.

I mean I just recently gave Canon $2K for my 7D, and considering the issues with that camera I'd gladly pay double that to not only ditch the horrid .H264 codec and move to RAW, but also get a modular system along with it. Man its lovely.

I know alot of people are excited for the 30th but honestly I'm more excited for next year, because thats when I'm hoping to get my hands on it. But I guess the 30th will have to pacify me until then.

But seriously its been a blessing for me to have purchased the 7D because now I completely know, and will come to further revelation regarding the superiority of the RED cameras, and their method of business. To have all of these issues, and to finally get away from them once Scarlet rolls out, I will be able to appreciate it even the more, because I know where I came from, and I will know where I'm at, and it will be far better than I thought, I'm sure of it.

Epic and Scarlet batteries are not V-Locks, but you can use V-lock batteries with a belt clip or craddle on Epic and Scarlet if you so desire.

Thanks Jarred. Hey they other thing I asked about earlier was how much does the Epic S35 rig weigh as configured for the trade in for my Red One?

Brain + modules + batts + monitor, etc....

Just curious how they compare.

Mark

And he said something about around 4000$ for the fixed scarlet... exciting!

May I post the link here?

Cheers to the beautiful Bamberg (I count to shoot with a Scarlet in your town to begin next summer) and thanks for the link.

Ted Schilowitz is a perfect RED's ambassador. Nice to see his enthusiasm. We should be able to see more videos with.

E. :-)

So, for steadicam users, the V-Lock battery option would be the best?

(this is coming from someone with no professional steadicam experience, but I am wanting to learn in the near future)

Before you get your hopes up, where did we read from Jim that "$4K for a complete kit" is the plan?

Wait til the 30th...

Its more of a hope and a prayer rather than a fact. But if you watch the video mentioned on the previous page its spoken in pretty straight forward english.

And to be more specific at 1:18-1:35 he specifically mentions the price. Now I'm sure these figures can change, but I'd like to think that a man holding a EPIC body in his lap, pretty much knows what he's talking about, but hey thats just me.

That is interesting and a bit of a good surprise. I will still plan on expecting to pay more for that, that way I don't find myself disappointed... :smile5:

Cheers to the 30th...:cheers2:

By this, you mean we ought to consider all other talks of the DSMC as nil until the 30th except for the "October 30th" thread? I realize things are constantly changing, so even what we may have heard a week ago is probably a little different than what they are today. (which is totally cool)

I believe thats our best method of operation. If we plan for the worst and hope for the best we'd be always in happy land.

Regardless if the Fixed Scarlet ends up being $5K, I pray to the Lord it doesn't, but "IF" it did, It'd be completely worth it. Nothing else in that price range can even dream of handling a RAW codec like it can. So I go back to my previous statement. Because I bought a 7D it only allows me to fully appreciate the price and the quality, not to mention the ability the Scarlet will have once it drops.

Speaking of Canon, all day while watching the NFL, Canon has been running an ad campaign on "moving photography" and it's vDSLR's.

I couldn't help but think of "Cinephotography" and RED having it trademarked. :hurray:

We live in some exciting times.

I couldn't agree with you more. As a fledgling New Media Content Creator I love whats taking place with equipment. The price points, the specifications, the features, etc, etc, etc. All of this allows someone like myself to raise the bar w/o breaking the bank.

But most importantly RED is beginning to push the other manufactures to stop their archaic ways of business. For years they gave the markets just enough to get by, and nothing more until their next release. But what I've come to understand from friends who know others who have owned RED ONE's that, RED has taken care of their people, and not just on the new items, nor when they first purchased, but continuously throughout their ownership of said products. And personally I can't wait to give my hard earned $$$ to a company who not only treats me as a valued customer, but as a friend. I think thats more valuable than the tech, to me at least. Because if you treat me right, I will be more than happy to forgive when you make a mistake. VS. if you just mull over me and you make a mistake, I'm less forgiving.
