- will touch focus be only available on Red electronic lenses or will Red be able to control focus on nikon/canon lenses.

Dave,

In the Oct. 30th announcement the plural "mounts" (“Touch Focus Tracking” with electronic lens mounts) suggests it will be available on Nikon and Canon as well. Probably would be good to get this confirmed though...

I asked this question a while back and Jim replied that electronic control will indeed work on Canons and Nikons. I'm still not sure if we'll have Impero-like FF or if it will be available only in either AF or Red touchscreen configurations. Not that I'd be complaining but that Impero style FF does make stills lenses much more useful in a drama situation.

Ah yes, I remember that post. Here it is:

Since the Camera brain controls Touch Focus Tracking and traditional autofocus all mounts that have active focus control can take advantage of the AF modes.

How do OLEDs factor into lens control?

My bad Roberto. Got hard stops and focal marks mixed in my head. I was talking about the latter. And I don't even know if they'll use OLED's as the finished lens picture does not incorporate them.

Oh, yea, the OLED on the lens... I forget they are doing that, probably because of how wild the concept is. Yea I think that is for the FF35 electronic lenses only.

I just hope the Iris allows for very fine adjustment, not so much to get options but to be able to roll it mid shot and have it look smooth as opposed to the stair step you would get with VDSLRs or lenses with clicks.

AHHHHH! Totally understand what you are talking about now. And can now reply with a real post about what I think....

Defn will not be hard stops. This is a Cinema camera for one (never hard stops on any film lenses, or at least none that I have used), #2 the focal section of the lens is never hard stopped so it can't be for this lens either.

Sorry about all the confusion Roberto.

2/3" Fixed Accessories

2/3" Fixed Accessories

What kind of essential accessories can we expect to purchase along with the 2/3" fixed pacakage? Or is the point to include absolutely every necessary aspect to use the camera right out of the box?

If that is the case... what might be some nonessential (technically) accessories that would basically be awesome and extremely helpful?

You can expect a side handle, battery and some kind of monitoring device (like the small screen). If we're lucky they'll throw in a CF card too (but it would probably be only something like 8GB).

So extra accessories to get would be the REDMOTE (looks really useful, but you don't need it to use the camera) and maybe few 16GB compact flash cards.

Do you guys think this RED Station would be a good thing to have on set? Is it like a dump station for the flash cards?

Isn't it just a station for mass offloading RED material.

That'd be about the only thing that it could be, but we don't know much of anything in the way of specifics.

If RED put the time and effort, it will be of good use to have on set. Depending on the price for that, we shall see how important it will be to have one. :thumbup1:

By the way, that "Leave Me" short you worked on was really, really good!

Thanks so much! I am glad you enjoyed it...I noticed you had "Liked" it a day ago. :001_smile:

The OLPF, is it removable? Is there anything to gain by having a removable/replaceable OLPF of various densities for shooting cropped/offspeed to reduce aliasing at needed resolutions? Just curious. I'm guessing its kind of finicky.

OLPF is set according to pixel pitch, so it doesn't need to be any different for cropped modes as the pixel pitch doesn't change. Basically, if it's set right, it's right.

Hi Graeme,
Is there a point to have a adjustable OLPF? To "fine tune" it if the camera have been used and beaten around much?

The pixels don't tend to move in relation to each other, them being affixed to the silicon of the senor - actually part of the silicon itself, so no need to fine tune.
