October 30th Announcement Feedback

I just wanted to voice my support and thanks to the Red team for working so hard and delivering the great news on Friday. I am totally inspired by your willingness to invest in excellence no matter the cost.

I probably don't qualify for the Stage 1 scenario since I am not constantly behind the camera, but Stage 2 sounds wonderful.

I do have one request. I don't know if it's been talked about before, but I hope the Stage 1 Tattoo feedback is publicly posted on this forum. It would be great to be a fly on the wall to the process.

There is a Word Clock out pin in the same connector that ingests the AES/EBU digital audio.

Stuart- I've been 'kicking the can' around in my head, and please excuse me me of this comes off as stupid as I think it may; if we're pulling word clock off the camera, that means it becomes the master clock, Right? How nice is the work clock in the module? Is it extra super special (the Pro I/O is $3000, is there some extra loven' in there?)?

Also, is the word clock embedded along with the AES/EBU? What does what application look like?

Could you give an example configuration? Preamp, to Converter XYZ, to Pro I/O, then you gotta WC out of the Pro I/O back to the XYZ converter... So on and so forth.

Does this make sense? :001_unsure: :001_unsure: :001_unsure:

(in response to 24-75mm lens)
Correct-o...

This is honesty the only disappointment for me. The originally announced 25-100/2.8 was just about perfect for my style. I often find myself stuck wanting either wider than 50 or tighter than 70mm all the time on my full-frame bodies.

Im going to ask again, for the sake of posterity- Is it safe to assume that scarlet is in-fact a 2010 and not a 2009 release?

Maybe a better way of asking would be. Is there any time frame you can give us that it WONT be out. ie People wanting a scarlet should not expect one before March 31st 2010... etc, At that date we may know or may NOT know when it will be released.

Scarlet 2/3" details, including expected delivery schedule, will be posted end of Nov.

Hey Jim-
Do you know yet if the end of November announcement will include Scarlet S35 feature and shipping details? Thanks!
Peace,

My only thought is...
RED One...wonderful camera...
S35 will be good...
now if you have RED One, S35, 2/3, Epic 617 etc. will the same firmware upgrade work across all? I would guess that RED would be hiring my engineers and programmers to handle such a wide amount of suggestions and inflowing bugs just to get the firmware release out...
Just wondering since there can be things that affect 2/3 that may not affect the R1 or the S35 etc.
Or am I just being foolish?

Surely also the option that comes for RED One owners of S35 should trickle down to the scarlet range and to the other ranges...though I guess that question will be answered at the end of this month now...

Great post by Rick put things into perspective for me, thanks dude! I was just having trouble seeing the between the lines shift. Basically it seems Red would really prefer to not have Reds coming back, which is understandable (though I wondered if they'd pull an Apple by flooding educational institutions with Reds, gettting massive tax deductions and educating an entire generation of film school grads on Red). Anyways, it seems that Tattoo or Stage 2 is now what I gotsa to do. Hopefully Tattoo, as that is very much what I did for Red in 2007-2008. It'd be nice if it didnt cost extra to be a beta tester, but they can charge admission to their party, hopefully I can get in! It'd kill me to be outside of this.

Questions about the Tattoo program, are these FPGA or ASIC based? Once Tattoo is over and we keep our tattoo brains and modules, will they be fully up to par to the stage 2 and stage 3 modules? I know from 7 years in the engineering field that when you're done with electronic beta units they are most often inferior to real production units.

Yes, reality is setting in for me, too. We will probably NOT trade in our RED, though that is what the plan has been for the past year. We'll probably now put down more money and take the Stage 2 discount and just have a 2nd working camera.

Honestly, it just seems simpler and I hate that I'd be having to sell some RED One accessories that don't work (ET gear). Redundancy is never a bad thing with cameras that are half computer.

Looking forward to getting THE email. :-)

Tattoo cameras have the exact same boards as production. They will always be updated to match production if there are changes. No long term downside. Probably will be the coolest RED cameras ever produced... except for "Frankie", "Boris" and "Natasha".

I have to say..... that level of customer respect shown to those early adopters is just stunning.

I'm equally jealous and happy for you early Red One guys!

I wonder if RED will ever put out "ready to go" packages similar to the ones seen in the 3 upgrade options.... With a slight discount in price? I think they would sell like crazy.

Brains have internet connectivity built in. Firmware upgrades will be incredibly easy.. no matter what brain you have.

For Traditional upgrades via CF cards, they will be brain specific.

No way! That is wicked cool!!
