O'Connor 2560

Anyone try the new O'Connor 2560 yet? Looks to me like a realisation that the 2060 was being missed and that having the 2065 the same weight as the 2575 was a fairly strange decision to say the least!
This looks exactly like the 2060 to me, same weight too. Sure they realised that they needed something between the 3.5kg 1030 and the 10.5kg 2575......which they did have, the 2060, before they binned it!

Gave it a whirl at Cine Gear this year. It is really sweet. It looks and performs just like my 2575 except it is smaller of course. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a new fluid head.

I wonder if the drag is heavy like the old 2060 and 2575 or light (horrible!) like the 2060HD?

I always thought the 2065 was a pointless head... the 2060 is perfect for Epic work.. I imagine the new head to be a sexier evolved 2060 brought out with a diifferent name so no marketeer looks silly.

if you realy want the best I really recommend the Atlas 40... lighter than the 2575 and made with love

2560 is same as 2060HD, except with more sector plates like a few non-"HD" 2060s were made.

I suppose it earns the new name by having enough new updates to call it something else, but it's based on the 2060.

Not a few, all the original 2060 heads (the grey ones) had the heavy drag as standard, it was changed for the HD model.

Just as a dumb aside, there were a few (I mean like 10-15) black non-HD 2060s made, I have one I picked up used from a fellow RedUser.

I had my 2060HD set to the heavier drag set up by O'Connor after I bought it.

And does anyone know if O'Connor is still doing that?

Trying to decide between a used 2060HD and a new 2560.

Probably a little late on this but I’m Steve Turner (OConnor PM).

The 2060 was originally our attempt at a broadcast head. We basically took one of our cine head designs and moved the pan brake to the back so it could be more easily reached when using dual pan bars with lens controls…and lightened the drag feel…It wasn’t successful!

We did indeed see a sudden increase in demand however on the second hand market (and through our re-sellers) after we stopped making it as a more portable support for larger digital cine camera packages.

So we brought it back but this time as a proper cine head…with the pan and tilt brake on the left hand side so can be accessed with one hand when your eye is to the eyepiece, front rosettes for a front handle & the original higher drag output. We also improved the platform and pan drag and made it generally more robust and reliable.

Hope I’ve summarised answers to all your questions! I think between you…you had it all covered! ;-)

Thanks for the kind words Phil...Glad you like it! You need something more than the 1030D/DS with a big zoom like that. You also need the additonal drag everyone has alluded to on this thread. Still, we managed to get this 2560 system, with the Heavy Duty Carbon sticks you are using to half the total tripod system weight of the traditional OConnor/Ronford cine sticks (25lb vs 50 lb) for location shooting.

Had the 2560 for a while now and it's epic (no pun intended!)
Basically the same as the original 2060, ie heavyweight drag, perfect for field use when you want (need) to save 3.5kg over the 2575.
Lots of us missed the 2060 when it was discontinued so it's nice to have it back - and it's prettier now too
Still by some distance my pick of tripods for long lens wildlife use - have used everything from a GH4 to a RED with 50-1000 on it.
