For those that have not noticed.. The sunglasses the miners are wearing when they surface (Needed to protect their eyes after weeks of being in darkness) are all OAKLEY.. Donated.

Very cool

Jay

very cool indeed

If this was marketing I would've been ashamed. Like Steve Jobs giving I pad to the miner as they come out. Ridiculous... is this marketing?

Americans VS Europeans

Americans think it's cool while Europeans find it embarassing.
Since I was born and raised in Europe but lived my entire adult life here in the US I must say I'm a bit confused about the moral/ ethical message of this O's move...:undecided:

Its not like they don't need it. After 69-70 days underground, the sunlight can cause permanent damage to ones eyes. They need eyepro anyway, and good on Oakley for donating the glasses. Any publicity they get from the gesture is icing on the cake in my opinion. :coolgleamA:

I'm European and I don't mind. Those guys suffered too much and they could never ever afford Oakleys from their usual salary.

Today Oakley is the company that owned by Luxottica Group based in Milan, Italy.

That means today Oakley nothing has to do any more with Jim or even RED just because he sold to them Oakley brand in 2007.

But why did they give them such ugly glasses? At least give them something nice, like a pair of Tom Fords. Sad.

Hahaha

The marketing spin that I noticed was in the blue jackets there were to wear. I was glad to see that they did not.

I see no moral issue here. I'm sure the company who made the drill bit or the escape pod will be delighted to let the world know that they contributed in this remarkable rescue.

However, I thought the politicians could have taken a step back - but then I usually think politicians should take a step back - preferably over a cliff...

They look like the first pair of Oakleys I bought about 18 years ago, I thought they were cool at the time.

They needed it, so why not the best. Oakleys are very good at not slipping off, they have great coatings which might play a factor, and certainly have the most coverage. Didn't they asked Oakley?
