  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nvidia Quadro K5000 for mac

Regarding the GTX 680.....Is says it supports Open GL.

I'm trying to find a card that plays well with both Premier & FCPx. Currently i have the Quadro 4000 and it seems to suck for FCPx. Was going to go back to Radeon card, but anyone try this card on both FCPx and Premier and have good results to report? If not, what is best way to go then for support on both of these NLE's? since one seems to work better with Cuda and other Open GL

Johnny please explain suck?

We use it on many configs from Quadro 4000 only, Quadro with AMD mix and even AMD with CUBIX loaded with Quadro 4000s.

These are on Mac Pro 2011 systems with 32GB RAM using SAS GTECH es Pro RAIDs.

I have terrible performance issues with the Quadro 4000. When i put back my Radeon card, it was far better....a 3min video was sluggish in the timeline beyond what words can describe. In on an early 2009 macpro with 2x2.26IntelXeon; 32gb; red rocket card, Quadro 4000 and running from esata to drives at raid 0.

....it is so bad, that i just gave up with the Quadro 4000 card.

**Add: I'm referencing the original R3d media as well....In premier there is just no comparison, but i like FCPx and plan to use it more on small stock footage projects.

No need to hack. It has a full Mac EFI and properly supports all OS functions, boot menus, power management, etc.. Just like buying any other Mac video card. And it's a GTX680, which means full CUDA support as well as OpenGL.

Not sure about Johnny's Quadro 4000 issue. Sounds like he may have a bad card or more likely a bad software installation that's having issues with the card.

oh yes! A nice surprise on the night.

How much faster is the GTX680 than the GTX285?

Some nice details for comparison. If anyone has real world speed tests please share.

GTX 285 vs GTX 680

Memory - 1GB GDDR3 vs 2GB GDDR5
CUDA Cores - 240 vs 1536 (This should be huge for CS6 right?)
Base Clock - 648 MHz vs 1006 MHz
Texture Fill Rate - 51.8GT/s vs 128.8GT/s
Memory Bandwidth - 159GB/s vs 192GB/s

Both cards feature Dual DVI. The GTX 680 has the ability to have four concurrent displays( HDMI and Displayport 1.1 in addition to Dual DVI).

Three year warranty on the EVGA card.

This card should boot to Windows VIA bootcamp, correct?
