  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Now Shipping. Sidewinder. Broadcast Module. Switchblade.

I wonder if it would be possible to "magiver" up a lemo plug to trick the brain into thinking there was a monitor plugged in. My application will be great with the Switchblade as the control point and then when you can actually see what the thing is doing on the little screen and do away with the monitor it's gonna be incredible. I thnk it's beyond epic when the Red equip can get better with a firware update but kind of a dead rubber when the product comes out not fully functioning and then the update just makes it fully functional a bit like the cup and shell trick. That said I'm happy to pay the coin and get the product cause a Red product at half potential is generally double the next nearest competitor. Love this camera and company.
 
One of a kind sidewinder showed up today.. Leave for middle of nowhere Friday. Good to know ill have it in my pocket.. Time to get dirty

I would just wait for the firmware 5.2.29 update should be today or tomorrow.
 
The names are very confusing so i now refer to the items as 'Sidewinder Tool' and 'Switchblade'.

What Jon said, till the firmware you'll NEED a monitor. As it doesn't currently show where your cursor is so you're basically navigating the menu structure blind.

Again, the new firmware SHOULD fix it.

That's my fault... and I completely agree that it is ass-backwards. It was the first time I let someone other than myself or Jim name our products and if it makes you feel better we still joke about it internally every other week :)

I believe much of the confusion is the words "side" and "blade".
Side Handle is similar to SideWinder
SwitchBlade is a handheld tool.

In any case I ordered one of these items, can't remember which one! LOL!

If you ordered it and it's payed for it will ship when it's allocated. No need to call your rep in reality.

Heh. The way I've been explaining it since NAB 2014 is:

- You can wind the Sidewinder.
- You can switch camera settings via the Switchblade.

Thought I've already affectionately called my Sidewinder "the Krueger" after Freddy Krueger.

But if you were doing it all over again I would simply call it the "Red Brain Driver" because of it's usefulness when performing "brain surgery".

Actually, for the lexDysia challenged, the names make perfect sense. '-)

It's cool, dude, just get the sidewinder shipping en masse and we'll figure out the naming confusion after many hours of playing with either! hah.
 
sidewinder tool as not reached me yet, thought Red just got a smackload of them?
 
I ordered one of the accessories with the word side in its name a while ago and still no news about it.
Can't wait to receive it as carrying ten allen keys is not as fun as it used to be.
 
cant believe how light and small Sidewinder is. Was expecting more something like a big chunky Letherman. Same goes for Swichblade! so Light it wont effect the weight on gimbal and drones! great work guys!!!

Withna Carbon Fiber Camera and Motion Mount + Sidewinder, the M10 may have extended life...
