  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nothing New

But there is something new… The rumor is, Canon is coming out with a XL-H2 type camera, shoulder mounted, full frame sensor (almost identical to 5Dmk2) which takes EF lenses and records 50m/bit. Was originally an October release, but the poor market has pushed the announcement back to January.

Who will be first out of the starting gate???

That's very interesting Russ, if it turns out to be a true rumor. Wasn't it said right here on these very forums that the big camera companies were asleep at the wheel, while RED is making awesome cameras at a good price point?

I wouldn't say asleep at the wheel. Maybe a little drowsy but certainly not asleep.

Dont worry canon also coming with the new DIGIC V processor, better optimized for RAW video,it will be in DS1 series, lets see how they compact with the price of Scarlets..

5D shoots 4fps raw, the 7D shoots 8fps raw. At the rate they are progressing, Canon is about two years away from 24p raw at a level that would match a RED One that has been on the market for two years.

Ah, yes, the bust rate has decreased (forgot about that). As for the resolution, I highly doubt that (link?). And for the REDCODE numbers, they do not equate directly to data rates as far as RED have said, and I assume that the reason that it only offer REDCODE 42 is because it has been said that it's very difficult to tell the difference at all between the RED ONE's REDCODE 36 and REDCODE 42, and that shoots almost twice the resolution of 3K...

Data rate scales with frame rate. The RC42 rate would only be at the highest frame rates.

That is what they want you to think. The big guys will still be the big guys no matter what RED does. They have some big techies working for them as we speak. They are also making millions on top of millions from camera gear, stills and video, as we speak. They go at their own pace and when they introduce a product they know they will make a few millions more in the process as you have certainly witnessed with the 5D and now the 7D. The implementation of a RAW codec will be a simple process for them, have no doubt about it. And they will introduce it with a big bang, expect that. The problem with RAW as we know with RED is that it takes a lot of computing power and NLEs implementation. And that takes time and preparation to do it right. And that is what all the big guys from Japan are so used to do. That is reality.

I think that all major companies have something like a Red "secret weapon" in the vault, but only release little tiny features/upgrades as the years go on. This is how they stay in business and how Red is going to put them out... Well we will see. If Red puts them out, will Red up the price ?

I feel like we're at the end of a really good card game and at some point we will see all of the cards soon

This is like when people compare Macs and PCs and forget that the main difference is a superior OPERATING SYSTEM and CODEC and not price or bits of hardware.

The main difference is a lot of hyperbole and the fact that's os x is not a good operating system if you do anything more than photoshop and browse the net.

.... where do you get your knowledge from??? This is absolute nonsens!!! :banghead:
