  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NOTE: Only one (1) expander module can be used at a time

Can someone clarify this disclaimer that appears on the Raven order page? Does this mean that I could NOT, for example, connect the DSMC2 Base Expander + DSMC2 Redvolt XL Module at the same time? Or am I misunderstanding the definition of "expander module"?

Heck I'm doing it :)

The truth is one "Accessory Expander" and one "Power Module" are possible. Though some Expander(s) have battery power support in some way. Additionally the "just power" Expanders/Modules can just attach directly to the camera brain.

Thanks for the note, Phil. The delineation between "accessory" and "power" solves the problem. Good to hear! I am liking the XL approach vs. V-Lock - just seems like a more tidy package overall.

Finally someone answers my questions.. asked that in multiple threats a few times by now.
Does this mean that the base I/O v-lock expander HAS to be attached to the brain directly?
So you can't put any other moduel in between, e.g the redvolt module?

If so this module would restrict you in your modularity - kind of "stand alone" module...

Yes, the I/O expander would need to be attached to the brain directly. Because it has the V-Lock connections, you can't connect another module on top of that. It's designed for the battery to attach, not another module. So, that is sort of the "end of the road" for rear expansion. That said, you could get the standard DSMC2 I/O (without V-Lock), and then add the Redvolt power module to the back of that. Or, just get the Redvolt Expander and get I/O and power in one.

It would be handy to have an online configuration wizard for new Red users... click on the features you want/need, and it creates a shopping list of what you need to make it all happen.

Well that's a bit unhappy, I really hoped you could put the basie I/O (vl-lock) adapter at the end of your module chain..
So for maximum modularity you want to get the base I/O (non v-lock) expander (and whatever module you wnat with it)
