  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nokia announces 8k camera phone!

Is anyone going to point out that 8 megapixels and 8k (horizontal) resolution are two entirely different things? The title of the thread is just plain erroneous.

A quick search of the web turns up:

3264 x 2176

This is impressive for a phone, but is about 3k, not 8k.

It's a 41 megapixel sensor with an active area of 7728 x 5368.

But yes, you can't actually record 41MP images.

You can record 7k stills. Or 1080p supersampled from 8k. If Alexa is a 3k camera and F65 is an 8k camera then that definitely qualifies. ;)

Sure it is ;-)

Here are three(?) examples* of amateur quality by order of risk category :D

Nothing more dangerous than an intrepid young Lady ;)

Who doesn't agree with Jim now...?! HD, who cares?! Your audience's smartphone is higher rez! HD resolution is for pussies :-)

According to the whitepaper it can handle 1 billion pixels per second for video. So it does actually have a throughput of 40 Megapixels at 24 frames per second. If there was a 4K recording standard with fixed function encoding hardware, this camera could just as well record 4K video.

Is there any information on burst modes for stills?

Maybe with an HDMI recorder to be able to do it with a clean output. Do you think so? I don't. 1080/30p BTW, as of today.

It is 7.7k, so if you round up 0.7 like most would (closer to 8 than 7), then it records "8k," for those wanting to stick to round numbers anyway. I see anything wrong with using decimals, 7.7k

Am I getting this right about the sensor? If it is "1 over 1.2 inches," then it is 25.4mm by 30mm.... So a tiny bit bigger than S35??? Nice... That would explain the ugly distortion on the edges in full frame pictures. OOF areas look pretty nasty as well.

I don't get the lens... But it seems pretty amazing.

Wow... funny thing is that I saw this kind of "zoom" (crop) interface for RED. I thought of something like this because it would help people quickly analyze many of the actual results of a specific crop.

On the spot. Why not to say what really is?

I agree with you Roberto. Both, that crop zoom and lens, are pretty neat. On the rest, well, could we (both of us) still believe in Santa? ;-) LOL See by your own eyes:

Nokia is pretty serious about their imaging for mobile.

N95 had the best picture quality on the mobile phone market when it was introduced.
N8 ruled until now. The crown now goes to N808.

Although 640x360 display is probably not the adequate choice, this is a pretty remarkable achievement.
Hats off.

1/1.2" = 10.67 mm x 8.00 mm = smaller than Super 16mm (12.52x7.41mm) --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format#Table_of_sensor_sizes

Thanks! Now it makes sense.

I agree. The Galaxy III might be the phone to get. With a Quad Core 1.5Ghz and a huge 4.6 inch (1920x1080) screen you'll get to do so much more on it. Wish it had a keyboard though... Also would be nice if the next iPhone came with a significantly larger screen, and a keyboard... snif...

Nokia has announced that this is the first in a line of Pureview phones. Next up is a Windows Phone 7.5 flagship with a better everything. WP7.5 is super quick, you could take a picture from idle / screen off to captured in 2-3 seconds flat.

Can it reliably make and receive phone calls? :smilielol5:

Is there anyone else who thinks it would be really special if someone would make a phone that you can actually use to talk with people? The sad truth is that my last 4 cell phones have been the worst I've owned at the basic talk functions: 2 iphones and 2 blackberrys. Just freakin' awful.

I haven't moved, but the old analogue phones worked, the digital phones before 3G worked, but the new ones just suck. I really wish they would just stop friggin' around with cameras and make a damn phone that works as a phone.

LOL Why not make a camera that work like a good phone? Forget phone that makes video, stills, games, diary, alarm clock, calculator, Internet browser, cooking recepie finder, mate finder, pocket horoscope, weather update, currency exchange rate, vibrator...

I think whoever makes a camera that works as a reliable phone is going to be a very rich person.

Yes, and already linked in the previous pages, twice.

[EDIT] OK, not directly but from another link where besides to include the same link, everything is crystal clear:

It is a mobile phone with a capture device, not a photo or movie camera.

:-)

That might be true for Blackberry or iPhone, but certainly not must other smartphones. Nokia Lumia 800 is not only the smartest of all smartphones, it is also the best telephone I have used. I still prefer dumbphones in general though.
