Fellas,

These feuds are getting tiresome. Can everyone find a happy place. People need to be able express varying opinions. Reduser has mods, they do a great job, rather than fight it out on the thread maybe use the report button and ask a mod to decide.

Thats what hat I tend to do.

no everyone needs to own a camera, tons of colorists are on reduser who give amazing advice, redcine x is free and a lot of people use it and need it, should they not be on here?

Or.... you can buy a camera and punch your ticket as a critic. '-)

For the record I am currently saving up to buy a Dragon. I haven't had the luxury to afford a RED camera in the past. I'm not privileged to be able to own one for hobby work alone.

In no way is owning a prerequisite to comment or critique a system I've been shooting with for years. Give it a rest already.

You know how many times I have reported him? too many to count and nothing has been done or said. Believe me, I'm done with him and he's blocked from now on. Wish I could speak my mind without being attacked. I think I contribute quite a bit here constructively and do not appreciate being attacked when I offer criticism. I am one of RED's biggest champions, and if you knew me you wouldn't hesitate to back up that statement. I've been defending and promoting Dragon on CML as well and not afraid to be called an "educated fanboy". Feel free to check out my recent posts there. Hell, look at my website for christs sake. To my friends I'm known as the RED guy, to Elsie I apparently despise RED and do nothing but troll. Maybe it's time to leave this place...

I suppose you won't see this, but words have consequences. What you see as speaking your mind may be seen by a RED owner as undercutting their business by spreading fear that a Dragon doesn't perform, even after many experts on the forum have shown examples of fine work they can do with their cameras. Your rights end where another persons boundary begins.

You probably do not think of the harm you are doing others and consider yourself as the White Knight. Just asking you to consider how your words affect others. I hope you do buy a camera. I think you will become more protective of your business model.

Fair enough.

What at was this thread about? Oh, yeah, noise. :)

An alternative to the "you must be a Red owner to provide criticism" should be "you must produce content worth watching to provide criticism" - plenty of people on this board create amazing work, I think the quality of one's work gives them a far greater right to debate and criticise than does owning the actual camera. Matt, you produce really great images, so keep doing what you do.

Daniel, are you a Dragon owner?

...It's just a waiting game now and continuing to "push"...

elsie, you're right. buying a "not even ready and finished product" as i see the dragon can be a dangerous investment. this is why i cancelled my (already paid in advance) order yesterday and asked for a refund. when the dragon is ready, and i'm shure somewhen it will be - i rethink the upgrade.
in the meantime i stay with my mx epic, which is a awesome "picturemakingmachine" (=moneymakingmachine) ;-)
and also in he meantime i can invest in better glass, which is for shure a much more sustainable invest.

cheers, all the betatesters here.

... can't end my post without saying that: thank you all here for doing a great job, when it comes to test out the dragon, a massive help for red making it a finish product :-)

Norbert, sounds like you have a sound business plan. On the other hand, were you an early adopter eligible for the loyalty price? If so, check with RED to make sure you can get that reduced price for the Dragon upgrade later on. My understanding is that once you get the email, that constitutes being executed in re: upgrade. For me, that $1000 reduction in price is, well... priceless. '-)

Nope, I own a Scarlet. I don't see how this changes anything though - Matt has shown that he produces amazing images with Red cameras, and I think that gives him a very legitimate position to state his opinion.

Fair enough, as a Scarlet owner you have every right to make any legitimate complaints as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand, I don't think it is very polite to go into a business's place of discussion and pick on their product, even though you are not a customer yet.

As far as making amazing images, he apparently has trouble doing so with a Dragon, by his own admission (that he will shoot with a competitor's camera.)

If you will look at all the images posted by other Dragon owners, amazing images are a dime a dozen in their talented hands. '-)

no elsie, i'm not an early adopter :-)

i did my order at early february this year... i was not interested in 1000 usd for a beta tester's status. quite the contrary. all what i can read about the glitches with the dragon upgrade makes me think, february 2014 was too early to decide about the upgrade.

the camera is my tool, with a "unfinished" tool i can't earn my money. jarred posted some time ago: "2012 was the year of dragon". in my opinion 2012 shure was the year of dragon, but only for red. not for us. now, 2014: dragon does still not fulfill the specifications of their own homepage. not even the framerates of mx have been reached. a director, who wants to shoot 120 fps WILL shoot 120. not 119,xx.
i have a camera which can do that. why should i change something and invest money for getting less (at the MOMENT)

yes, i have a business plan. and for all investments there comes the right time. without any pressure :-)

and what has to be said also: every day new solutions are popping up. to find the right long term investment is going to be very hard. to invest in a camera, or sensor upgrade was the right way a few years ago :-)

very important for me: many cameras will show up, as well 4k players etc., which will meet specifications which are fitting better in the european market. hey, we have 25fps :-))) i would like to buy the redray as well, but it is not possible for me, it would simply NOT WORK for me :-(
modularity was one of the biggest benefit when i thought about buying a camera a few years ago. i love the idea of the redlink, but unfortunately it would destroy the concept of modularity (in my case). sorry, i can't buy it. time will bring other solutions, so: no anger here about it :-)

i'll keep myself informed, when dragon is bullet-proof i will jump on this train.
same for other pieces of equipment. will buy, when it fits MY needs. not one second before that.

what i have to add to my first answer to your "early adopter" question: no, 1000 usd for the beta tester status is not interesting for me. on the other hand my opinion: yes, i would pay 1000 usd MORE for a 100% working tool. :-)

good luck,

norbert

Back to NOISE guys...hehehehehehehe The passion of telling stories with the best possible camera can overwhelm some and then some more...Matt is a great guy who likes to collaborate here all the time...then Elsie Don't bother to reply his thoughts too...I guess a lot of passion carries on to each other and I think in the end, we are all RED lovers wanting more and more... Patience is a Virtue...

I am so humbly happy with my Scarlet...and I love how you all collaborate here for many of us who learn and use a lot your valuable information from your tests...

Too bad I haven't still figured out how to open my own thread to share my experiences. Apparently I have not enough privilege every time I try but hey, I Enjoy and keep learning from you guys...So back to the Topic and no mo' attacking to each other guys...

Peace and Love!

Alain

What I understood is that in the new firmware the red noise will disappear but there will still be noise.

I would trade a half a stop to a stop on the high end for noise free images at 800 on par with noise levels on MX. But maybe that's just me...Same noise or better as MX at 800 gets my vote.

Matt, I appreciate your contributions and I just joined you in adding Elsie to my ignore list.

Julio
Same here. Matt, really appreciate all you're doing here as well as all of your past contributions.
As a future dragon owner (paid in advance last year), I'm concerned about the noise issue and I'm very thankful it is being addressed and discussed thoroughly.

Also, I am 100% confident RED will fix it. So, Matt, please don't be discouraged and keep contributing for the sake of the red community.

cheers

Just throwing my support out for Matt. He is a great guy who contributes a ton to these forums. He is a credible/ intelligent filmmaker without the fanboy bias. This makes him worth talking too in my book. And...not that it matters (except to the op) but he used to own a Scarlet for goodness sakes!

Moving on

As far as the noise goes, I'm extremely anxious to see how effective the next build is at cleaning up the low end noise. From the chart it already looks soo much better. But won't know for sure how much better until we see moving images. But I have confidence it will be a nice update!
