Hi guys,i was wondering how many Epic-m's have been delivered till now, would like to know the number of epic-m's out there.............

i heard somewhere on a previous thread that the numbers would reach 500 before nab. I think someone from red can answer the question...

waiting for the replies........

No replies,guysss???? still waiting.....

I think I heard Ted mention in one of his NAB interviews that a few hundred were out which sounds about right.

200-400...

Including private and big feature ones

It's crazy though how fast they are getting these out there...

Not sure if the have been serial numbered completely sequentially, but I've seen Epic-Ms with serial number in the high 400s....

Wow, that's interesting. It's a great sign that if they can get the Epic-M cameras out at this speed, imagine the difference once they move to the EPIC-X's.

Just some late night ponderings: If the epic x production line is ready to go except for "18 missing parts" from Japan - why are they still machining the M? I doubt any of the structural elements are coming from Japan are they? seems like they just could build the majority of the camera on the epic x path and then drop in the missing and reportedly overpriced now 18 missing parts. (BTW the price difference between M and X is 20,000. If they've made 471 of them that's an additional gross of 9.4 million dollars. Just some random math that went through my head as I read this.)

I asked several times the same question...

To Ketch:
If number 442 stage 2 is delivered it does not mean they are 442 cams out there. But I neither count
Hollywood spécial ordre that don t go by sérail number.

I HATE BEING AT 78XX!!!!!!!!!!!

@Mark: A guess would be that the increased component prices and low volume makes it unfeasible to sell Epic-X's at the announced price. Might be a bit more wiggle room in the Epic-M budget, or simply that they don't need to start up a production line thats geared (and manned) for efficient "high volume" production.

Don't forget that the M packages are not shipping with all the modules that are included. It would probably be easier for X packages to ship complete.

Also, Red had enough parts for around 500 cameras from before the earthquake hit.

Mark, like you I ponder. And I think the reason for machining the Epic M is to give it a "handmade" reputation. I also think that Epic X is becoming more costly than originally planned, especially when you factor in R & D + other labor costs. If correct, that could mean there is little, if any, profit left in the X camera.

Notice how the supposed competitors of the Epic X all have enormous, by comparison, pricetags?

So I'm thinking that while RED is not purposely holding up the Epic X line, yet due to an unfortunate circumstance (Japan quake) RED is making the more profitable custom-made machined Epic M in order to make up for the added expense of the freebies and the generous trade-in allowances to us Stage 2, 3, and 3.5 Epic X customers. With the Epic X on parts-hold, the machined Epic M is their only cash cow in the interim.

I'm not in the collective RED head, but I think this has plausibility, if nothing else.

Good point Elsie. And Red is the one company that I want most to make a profit and stay in biz.

...one reason I had no problem spending $4,900 on the Clutch. They gotta make some profit somewhere.

maybe the epic M is the reason that a stage 3 customer can give back a 3 year old camera and get a 30000 usd cam for 10k.
only thing i wonder is the lack of european M owners. (2xrental companies i know of)
man, 28th june is a special day for me and would love to get an X by then. hopefully.
