  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nice commercial

Alex,

The young lady has beautiful hair, IMHO. The butterfly was a nice statement about stuggles. And that seems to have little to do with Pantene. Unless Pantene is saying it can end your struggles and provide you with beautiful hair too. Heck, I don't know, but I liked the music and story line.

Nice story. But needed to be about a minute longer though to flesh out the sibling rivalry bit. I didn't quite get that. It would've been great if the old busker guy was her imaginary friend dreamt up in the throes of her isolation.

Also it kind of lost me when the wind started blowing in her hair like a, uh, Pantene commercial.

I am glad that corporations are starting to sponsor these mini shorts. It seems to be all the rage right now. Its reached 5 million people at a fraction of the cost of buying airtime. And its perpetual.

I am also glad to see story telling and metaphor used for commercial purposes rather than the hard sell stuff I and so many others have shot for so many years. Short films that gather a viral audience are very effective and allow more money to be spent on production and less on air time. Interesting trend, and good for us.

There was a coffee commercial some years ago that suggested a budding romance between two sophisticates, started by one of them knocking on the other's door and borrowing some coffee grounds, I think. Each new commercial added to the story. Don't remember how it ended (if I ever knew), but it was interesting to watch.

It is very good to see this for our profession. When viral videos first came about many thought it hurt film makers and the art of our profession was being lost because a guy getting hit in the nuts could attract so much attention. However, now it's coming full circle and it's actually helping to create more art that would not have had the budget or platform before.

Absoloutely. A good viral video, can essentially become the most valuable piece of screen real estate on the planet. Its time big ad dollars start supporting budding filmmakers to create engaging content which adds value to a viewers life.

VERY GOOD POINT...!

Are you referring to the Nescafe Gold Blend adverts from the late 80s with Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan

They were quite a sensation at the time, and much anticipated.

Jonathan Glazer Guinness ads are the best...although I am also partial to the Rutger Hauer ones too.
