  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

News from Cool Lights

The flood isn't good with diffusion. Photons scattered in a wider pattern means less concentration and therefore wider but weaker beam overall. Its better to use the spot with our softbox or some other diffusion.

The beam is about 6 feet wide at 6 feet for the spot.

The quality of light of both spot and flood is roughly the same, just the spot is stronger but less wide than the flood. Yes its quite harder than a fluorescent.

All LED 600 and 256s are back in stock and available for ordering as of now. 575w hmi fresnel and 1200w HMI par are also back in stock as well.

Richard,

I'm late on this thread, but curious do the lights work with
Anton Bauer batteries like the LitePanels do?

Also, from what I saw the website last I checked it says the
product is not in stock in the US, but rather in China.

Is this still the case, and if so -- how does it affect lead times?

Thanks Richard your prices are great :-)

Anthony

Anthony,

Thanks for your interest and comments.

The LED 600 will work on just about any battery either through the 4 pin XLR input or the optional AB or VLock battery plates ($99 each). The LED 600 is in stock in China as well as in the USA as of today.

Another general announcement--we have the speed softbox kit for the LED 256 now in stock. Here's a picture:

Thanks, I just ordered the 600 spot /softbox. I'm guessing the new 256 softbox is only in china? When does it arrive stateside?

Hi Richard, looked everywhere on your site as well as the downloaded manuals.
Could you tell me what is the CRI is for your CDM's?

Hi all! One general question: What is your overall opinion (to both, Richard and his customers) are the cool lights led fixtures rugged enough for renting them out? Any answer is very much appreciated!

Some do and most don't. Seems like the model for renting is usually to rent out something super expensive that many can't afford. At $449, the LED 600 is affordable by a lot of people so not so unobtainable. So it just seems it wouldn't have the same rental appeal as something 4 times as expensive might.

Anyway that's my opinion on it.

Richard, as always, thanks for your quick reply and for sharing your view!

I'm very happy to announce that the LED 1200 is finally ready for ordering from China and next month from USA (if shipment to USA goes as planned). Relevant information and pricing can be found on the following product pages

The included LED 1200 backpack holds fixture, all accessories and
one light stand on external loops. Good padding, very rugged.

Besides the included backpack, there is another carrying case option as well, which can be seen here:

The LED 1200 comes with an AC to DC power source like the LED 600 does. Battery operation is possible through a forthcoming external battery interface. That interface will operate up to 2 LED 1200s or 1 LED 2400 (not yet available). You'll be able to use one or two lead acid external batteries or one or two V or AB type batteries for the power source.

Feel free to contact us at info@coollights.biz or ask any questions you like about the LED 1200 on this thread. Thanks for looking.

Nice. The LED600 is one of my most used lights (I have several). The LED1200 looks like a great addition.

The case color has got to go though.

Haha, thanks for your comments. So he wants black it sounds like. Thought the black was a bit too blah for a backpack type case so we went with something different.

Liam,

Very sturdy. And yes in a Pelican it will withstand airline travel. Don't let the polycarbonate fool you. Its double wall corrugated, 6mm thick and all the edges and corners have aluminum extrusions on them to protect. Blunt objects and blows tend to bounce off the plastic. Plus the plastic doesn't bear any weight. There is an aluminum skeleton inside that bears all the weight of the MAM (lollipop) mount. This kind of architecture of the fixture has been tested and perfected well during the last three years on some other of our fixture lines and it holds up.

The case color has got to go though.

Not that I need one immediately, but I'd be less encouraged for sure looking at that case!

Bi-color means you went the rgb route?
(mixing different led's If I understand is the better way to achieve higher CRI, but imply higher price tag, correct?)

DON'T MIND, I read the page on bi-color 1200. Really interesting and multipurpose
Thanks
Alvise

Great news Richard !!

I like very much my PAR 600 and never go out without them. The 1200 will be in my pack too.
The 150 CDM are also a very good product, I will take 3 of them more.

best regards,

Olivier

Thanks for your comments guys. Yes bi-color is another method to achieve a higher CRI. What is missing most in daylight range LEDs to help with CRI is the red component of the spectrum. Its all related to how they commonly obtain a "white" LED that makes such LEDs deficient in red. Bi-Color and RGB panels make up for this by replacing red and more approximating a fuller spectrum. Single color panels require minus green filters to help put some more "life" into the color rendering. The bi-color type doesn't require any filtering at all.
