Order experience w/ Cool Lights?

Order experience w/ Cool Lights?

Does anyone know how fast Cool Lights typically fulfills orders? I need something for a shoot next week and am wondering about the shipping times.
Thanks!

Hi David,

I grew up in OKC, always glad to hear from someone there. We typically ship within a day of receipt of the order. Deadline is 10am PST each day. Orders received after that ship the next business day. You can call 877-272-1419 as well if you have other questions about ordering or stock or email to info@coollights.biz. Thanks!

Advice needed
I want to mount one of Richards flos on a strong boom arm or crane so the light shines downwards. The ball Richard provides has proven strong enough
on it's curved stand bracket but of course the stand is in the way. Any ideas on how I can get this ball bracket onto the end of the arm?

Questions RE: The diffusion that comes with the LED's.
1) Is it supposed to go with the points in to the LED's or out or doesn't it matter?
2) Is there light loss and if so how much is it measured in stops?
3) Is the beam angle (40° for spot) from the light changed by it?
4) As you can see, mine is now curved from the heat of use, will that affect the angle? (prolly not but I thought I would ask)

Thanks in advance !!

HI Jhoe,

You can use a grip head to attach the lollipop stem (without the stand adapter) of the portable flos to the boom.

Diffusion doesn't matter with or without alignment to LEDs.

The diffusion takes about a stop of light out.

Yes beam angle is changed a bit but not sure how much.

I don't think curved from heat changes the angle really.

To anyone. Re:this picture from Matt Gottshalk

are these Richard's LEDs or another make?
Also if I were to do something similar with Richard's LED600's
would I be better using floods for even coverage or spots to get more light thru?

Richard, have you ever though about making a rig to mount 4 of the Led600s together in an array like this:

picture.php

It would require a 1-1/8" Junior pin so that it could be used with a combo stand.

Those are 4 Litepanels 1x1s in a 4x4 configuration. When they're that close together, floods or spots, won't make much difference and especially when shining into a diffusion frame like that. You can do something fairly similar with ours using 2 of our CL-LEDHBAR and 1 CL-LEDVBAR which can put 4 panels on 1 light stand--just make sure its a good light stand or C-Stand.

any movement on the new models Richard?

light kit?? next step?

light kit?? next step?

Hi guys,

Purchased Cool Lights LEDs 256 and 600 last year and they have been fantastic and getting plenty of use (and travel).

Now looking to make the next step up in lighting kit and trying to work out the best options. I want to consider that we'll continue to use the LEDs but now look at a 2nd bigger kit that provides us with more punch, control and options.

I've hired Kino Flos before and love the light they put out. But feel I also need some more directional, hard light to play with as well. The bulk of our needs is traveling (road and air), moving quickly and lighting talent (people) so the ease of transport is very important.

No particular budget planned but looking to make the next smart investment.

Any advice???
thanks in advance
cheers
wes

If you're looking for more traditional hard lights (one shadow vs. multiple with LEDs) then something like our CDM 150 fresnel perhaps. About the size of an Arri 650w fresnel but native daylight in output, and all the normal controls, features you'd expect in a fresnel of course.

Hi Ketch,

Yes I found there are two many tolerance variations among the Panasonic battery clones and this was causing some headaches so we are pulling that one temporarily till we can get a better plate designed to handle all those differences.

Thanks for your comments on the 600! We're on track for opening up ordering on Thursday or so this week.

Cool understand.

Please invoice me for A small LED unit and one of the CDM 150 fresnel so I can try them out, now this wil also work in the 220w power of Italy correct?

I'm trying to decide whether to get the 600 spot or flood. It's a difficult decision
seeing as they are clearly very different lights when you look at the output at 6ft.
I have some questions that might help me decide

1. Will I get the same light from the LED600 spot or flood once they are in the
LED600 Speed Softbox kit? Or will one work better than the other?

2. What is the rough diameter of the 600 spot at 6ft distance? (I'm calculating size of diffusion screen)

3. I'm guessing that the flood even though it is described as being softer, is still quite a bit harder than the 2 bank flo I bought from you (CL-255PMD). Is that correct?

edit:
I'm fairly certain I will get the spot and use it with diffusion (either softbox or scrim)
