  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer REDCINE-X...

Tim,

It's doing the same thing in 32bit mode.

Ok, then sounds like a glitch/bug that Im sure Deanan and team will fix quickly... in that the app struggles to go back and forth between internal and external viewing.

The clip sticking in the viewer when switching to monitor out and back has always been an issue. Still lots of little things like that to address in the app I guess. For me, I have to switch the monitor out off and on here and there because when it's on, the histogram doesn't update to reflect any changes I make. This gets very tedious, depending on how often I feel I need to switch. If I try to switch back and forth too fast or too much I've been able to cause the app to hang or the Rocket card to hang. Usually a force quit and then reloading RC-X and everything is back as it should be, but it seems to be pretty easy to break the app if you play too rough.

So far, it seems the 64bit version on OSX works about the same as the 32bit version. I should have some more time over the next few days to play with it and I want to compare some benchmarks for transcodes between the two versions, especially 64bit when paired with the 64bit kernel extensions. I'm not expecting any real differences as the Rocket card and third-party codecs do most of the lifting, but you never know...

Chris,

unfortunately Windows XP64 is a bit orf a bastard child when it comes to true 64bit support in the modern framework of Windows 64bit apps (like Windows 7 x64). You'll find that it's really a much simpler proposition to move to Windows 7 64bit (especially as Adobe CS5 etc require Vista or 7 64bit to operate properly).

HTH

Paul
Thanks Paul (& Rudi) for the feedback.
Not an option to upgrade my box at present... its a bit of a mish-mash of day-to-day work, colour R&D with DCP's, etc etc...
Will just have to stick with the 32bit (that works) and use 64bit on other machines we have. ;-)
cheers!

OK Some weird stuff. with R321 64 Bit

First, I have to say its EXCITING AS HELL TO SEE MY Rocket BoB working!

1. Rocket ONLY plays back to external monitor at 1/2 Debayer thru BoB
BoB Config is DVI out to DVI in to Bob - then HDMI out to Plasma

2. When swapping clips in viewer. The ORIGINAL clip stays frozen in frame, only audio can be heard... but cant view any new clips dragged into the viewer as a Frame from fist clip stays FROZEN in viewer. Weird.

3. Despite #2 above, the correct clip plays back thru external monitoring- but again, only at 1/2 debayer. At FULL Debayer the monitor reads (No Signal)

EDIT See photo... Plasma has R2D2... Viewer has first clipped dragged in... Frozen when I hit play, but Plasma plays fine. (And yes, when I turn off external monitoring, the clip is STILL frozen, cant see any new clips dragged into viewer unless externally monitored)

Thoughts Deanan? Thanks!

Rocket can only do full debayer.

When going between BoB and normal, it does take some time to resynchronize the outputs everytime to you change settings.

The image stuck on the viewer is the current behavior.
It's on the todo list to do a second path to update the viewer while the rocket output is going.

I didn't realize you never had it connected to monitor until you got the BOB.

Jeff,

Have you noticed the caching in the preview window at desktop playback is more hiccups on 64bit mode? I know mine does.

PLEASE DEANAN,

Put back the good old color spaces and gammas.

Thanks

Antoine

both mac versions of 321 dont show up the box when i hit the rocket video out button. only 23.98 rgb is activated then.....

What seems like a little thing is actually a huge amount of work which why it's not there yet. It bugs us too :)

Well, you must be making progress...because if one is a little patient with the app, and lets things load for a second or two, it does work like its supposed to from time to time.

I played for about 5 hours yesterday and by not stressing the app, those issues disappeared at times. But once you start swapping clips, going back and forth from internal to external viewing, and working at (DIT speeds) is when it starts to get unstable and freezes.

Still lots and lots of cool features enabled though, keep up the great work!

You have to click the Rocket icon to bring up video out settings now. The monitor icon simply turns video out on and off.

Thanks Deanan and team, I really love Dual Rocket export speeds and 3d 4.5K playback on a workstation just makes me smile every time I hit play. I know it will get better, but it has come so far it's amazing.

I've used so many versions of this software that I feel like I can actually appreciate, if even in a small way, the crazy amount of work that has gone in to the software.

Also, I love the Favorites option for saving my default storage location for R3Ds, great improvements.

Playback itself seems to be the same or real close, but yes it seems the caching does have some hiccups. And an occasional stutter during actual playback.

Still haven't got to any benchmarks though.
