  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer REDCINE-X...

Great fixes! Just putting 320 through the paces re-grading some old footage.
You guys are rocking! This fall is gonna be epic.

Ahhh, now the 64 bit Windows version is working! Thanks for the quick update.

P.S. The redcine-x icon included in the Windows 64 bit package is an .icns file, which is for Macs only. Windows uses the .ico format. A minor quibble that was easily rectified by going to http://www.iconverticons.com/.

Slow down with the updates...

Slow down with the updates...

I can't keep up with the updates, could you guys slow down with updating the RED CineX app. so much...

sarcasm goes here....

Really, wow, thank you...glad I came on board for the ride...it's fast and furious....downloading now...

redrocket doesn't work in redcine-x

redrocket doesn't work in redcine-x

Hi.

The new redcine-x seems to have great new features, thanks to RED team, but I cant get my redrocket working on redcine-x build 621 windows 64bit. It's weird because redrocket works great in scratch cine (4k full debayering 25fps). Does anybody else have the same problem?

Questions about PCI slots. If using a MacPro, you got two 16x slots, right? One for a video card, one for a Rocket. Where does the 2nd Rocket fit in? Can it go in a 4x slot? Will it have the same performance as the one in the 16x? Or am I just missing something all together?

Rocket is an X8 card and will work fine in an X4 slot, but it does limit your maximum throughput. It's doubtful you will see much performance hit with it in the X4 slot as most operations won't need that much bandwidth anyway.

One thing to keep in mind with multiple rocket cards is that the system itself, and any third-party codec software used, will be a bottleneck on performance. We can just about transcode to 4K DPX sequence in real-time on a fast Mac Pro with a 500MB/s RAID. Adding another Rocket will speed up the R3D processing, but would require another 500MB/s throughput on the drive system to keep up if doing DPX sequences. Two Rockets should really scream for 2K DPX or EXR output! For transcoding to ProRes, I'm not sure there would be any advantage to a second Rocket, unless working with Stereo and creating SS or TB formatted 3D clips. The ProRes codec is bound to only one, sometimes two, CPUs and is a huge bottleneck as it is, even with one Rocket card.

So it all depends. I think the primary advantage to multiple Rockets at this point would be for those doing stereo/3D work.

If you need more slots for the Rocket, there's always PCIe expansion systems. An X16 host expander with 2 or more X8 or better slots would give you room to host 2 Rockets via one X16 slot at full bandwidth (less a bit of latency).

Uncompressed and 444 codecs

Uncompressed and 444 codecs

Hi

RedcineX is really shaping up... there are a number of of really good touches.

One thing that is missing is the ability to render to MXF (for Avid) but using a uncompressed 10bit 422 or 444 Avid codec. 444 is relatively new for Avid with Symphony and MC but the Uncompressed 422 10bit option has been painfully missing for some time. As much as DNxHD is great we really need a no-excuse option!

kind regards

Michael

320 and 321 do not recognize my Rocket card. 262 still does though....

Running 32 bit Mac version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan

Do you have the latest drivers and firmware installed? You should probably download the newest rocket installer and reinstall to be sure.

I noticed you can save snapshots or single frames to R3D files. Are there any other programs (such as photoshop or Lightroom) that will read R3D files? I'm only on CS4 and that's not working but I thought perhaps CS5 would.

I spent the day at Light Iron yesterday going over whats possible with 321. All I can say is WHY SHOOT ANY THING BUT RED for 3D. The only issue I saw was for users who don't have a fast GPU to play to an ext monitor. I'm gonna put some 3D footage through the pipes for kicks.

GREAT JOB I couldn't ask for any better of a product.

CHEERS!

just was curious thats all

edit:
RED still planning 9k 28k etc? maybe stackable rockets will be needed in the future

ASUS P6T7 WS SuperComputer Motherboard = 7 PCI-E 16X slot. One for the video card and then 6 slot for 6 RedRocket. Dual RAID on board.

http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=9ca8hJfGz483noLk

But I doubt the board could sustain the data rate of 6 RedRocket I/O. If anyone has 40-50K for the hardware, I'm willing to make some tests...

All I can say is WHY SHOOT ANY THING BUT RED for 3D.

One answer is because you might want shallower depth of field at your normal stop than a S35 sized sensor is going to give you. Another answer is that you want something more compact, and there won't be anything like, say, the SI2K until Epic and Scarlet are actually shipping. And a third answer might be that you're shooting for live broadcast and need something that's more appropriate for that in terms of live feeds and lens choices.

You asked the question........

Download R3D snapshot and do for yourself the same or different

Download R3D snapshot and do for yourself the same or different

My first rendering with newest RCX:

New_RCX_02.jpg

Wiener Schwarzenbergplatz: Shot handheld on R1-MX with Leica Apo-Summicrom-M 75mm f/2.0 @ wide open f/2.0 (everything from one-man show with the cam on his shoulder and always additional gear!!!).
RCX (32 bit build) ISO 800, FLUT +1.3 32 output value with REDColor and REDLogFilm ProRes 4444, then in FCP Neat Video De-noise and The Foundry Furnace De-noise FCP plug ins,
then GenArts Sapphire Film Effects @ CC 78% with Film Neg: Kodak_5245: Eastman EXR 50D, low speed, daylight balanced, very fine grain (turned off)
& Print Film: Kodak_2383: Kodak VISION Color Print Film, rich blacks (all with grain amp turned off to get clean image but if you want you can always customize grain visibility).

New_RCX_03.jpg

Also instead of FLUT adjustment you can make C curve adjustment and play together a sort of REDLog-C Film!!!

The result clip can be download here and just 4.5 MB 1080p widescreen size 2.40_@_h264>>>

Super clean image and pretty good DR @ 14 stops!!!!

And now you can download R3D snapshot (1.5 MB) and try out to do the same for yourself or even better>>>

Was able to reproduce a FCP timeline using EDL
Crashing on the FCP XML import.
HD-SDI out is working fine. Nice and easy one button click for on/off.
Very responsive now.
