Newcomer looking for advice

Hello!
I'm a red virgin, coming from a DSLR background and I need some help on acquiring a red scarlet camera.

I'm being offered a Scarlet (Mysterium-X) PL-Mount with the following accesories:

- Redmote
- Side Handle
- Touch Screen Monitor
- Balance Plate
- Quick Release Plate
- 2 Batteries (unsure which batteries)
- Charger
- 2 128gb SSD's
- Sachtler tripod (not sure about the model)
- Redrock Mattebox
- Redrock follow focus

350 hours on sensor

The asking price is $9300


So, money-wise, is this a good deal?
I've seen body+handle+monitor kits on ebay going for $6,000+ so I was thinking this was pretty good.



Now, I'll be doing commercial shootings and shortfilms with this and I wanted to hear your opinion on my storage, battery and accesories needs.

Am I set? or should I expect a substantial expense to complete this kit?

Whether or not the Sachtler is an Ace, FSB 4/6/8, or a Video 18 system could swing that price by several thousand dollars.

If you don't need a camera right away then wait it out.

Think about doing the RED Transfer of Ownership so you get a 90 day warranty and access to future firmware upgrades.

I think you should just wait one month or two. When the scarlet-w and the raven will ship there will be a ton of scarlets on the market. And I'm sure you will find some pretty good deals on the scarlet-D too. The scarlet owners who upgrade (with the discount) need to keep their camera until they get the new one because of the ownership thing. I didn't see much scarlet-D on the market these 2 last months, almost none. There is 3 solutions for these owners. The first is to sell their camera now to be sure to sell it for a better price, and refuse the upgrade path, then they have more money to buy the package as new or whatever elements they want instead. The second is to find a buyer who accepts to buy the camera now and doesn't care of the upgrade path, they agree to make the transfer of ownership later when the new camera ship (they can find a deal sharing the discount advantage). The third solution is to wait for the new models to ship and then sell their camera. Seeing that there is almost no used scarlet dragon to sell I guess we will see a ton of scarlet-D in february and march, and the prices will be low for sure. Then it will not be possible for scarlet-X sellers to ask for the prices some are asking now if scarlet-D are already low (I'm a bit surprised reading some ads here on reduser for some scarlet-x at some crazy high prices sometimes, one is selling a scarlet-X with several hundreds hours on it for the price of a new Raven).

They'll give me 2 redvolts and 1 red brick....

There is no upgrade path from MX.

I definitely like the dragon sensor better than a URSA mini 4.6k, which is My option B, but not the mysterium's.

Well the URSA mini is not out yet if I'm not mistaken. Just wait one month. Th scarlet-W will start shipping on the 14th of february from what Red said. Then I'm sure some great deals will appear. And they will get better and better.

The Redrock gear is worth nothing.. The tripod depends on model. I'd say wait 3 months! Scarlet MX can barely be given away these days

I know, but I got my hands on one for a few hours just last week and It is unbelivably good.
Everyone's right though, I should probably wait for the next red releases and NAB.

I think you should wait. For that price you could get a Raven package, which start shipping in a couple of months.

Yes I could, a very basic package... but I'd stil need lots of stuff to actually get on shooting. Also, I'm not loving the rolling shutter on the raven, I do lots of running hand-held.

I don't think rolling shutter is going to be as much of an issue as you're thinking it might be. The Dragon sensor in DSMC2 appears to be quite fast. I'm in the same boat... I shoot from aircraft, some of which have roll rates of 400 degrees/second.

Rolling shutter on Raven should be almost minimal. And certainly much better than Scarlet MX. Clockspeed of Ravens and DSMC2 cameras are much faster. Where have you seen Rolling shutter on Raven? There's almost no footage out, except Carrion.

I shot on Dragons all the time, and Rolling shutter is never an issue...

I'd say wait for the Scarlet-W. I was ready to purchase a used Scarlet myself but this "W", if you can swing the additional money, looks like its ready for the future. The 4 year old Scarlet is good but you might regret making that purchase over the Scarlet-w.

That will lower the prices, that's a good thing for people looking for a scarlet. There's just a few red cameras deals now and I don't see many being sold. Just "bump" and "new price" as new comments. I'm curious to see how it will be in one or two months. As a seller I would sell it now, not being too greedy. Telling the buyer that I can lower the price if he accepts to let me use the upgrade path (like 50/50 on the discount) and to do the transfer of ownership later. I would have most of the money for the new camera now (better than paying the whole package and then trying to get back some money by selling the camera), and would avoid the dozens of used scarlet that will soon be on the market, lowering the price a lot.

If you do sell, let me know. I don't mind loosing the upgrade path to weapon.... Dragon's sensor will be great for many, many years. Just look at the red onemx still going strong on some sets! haha

If you are going to do an MX go red epic or red one kits it will be worth the money. go for what you need and can afford for right now or just save up for a full kit for later. I think 9G's is over the top for a scarlet MX
