  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello good people.

I am baffled, I am working on a project where RD3 files are sent to me via Google Drive - Dropbox. The sender, emails me a list of files and the duration.
I download the files, but none of the duration matches. I am wondering if it has to do with fact that I don't see the RMD of the files.
I don't know what to do, if someone could shed a light it would be amazing. Let me run the workflow so you will have a better understanding.
Camera originals, edited and the select clips that I need to work on it are exported and sent to me via Google drive or Dropbox. Sender, email me
a list of clips and their duration. After downloading the clips none of the duration matches, nor the clips have their RMD file with them.
How can I sort this one out?

Kind regards,

Manuel Rey

Zipped or not, sending .RDM or .RDC mags or clips should be pretty painless. Unsure why a duration mismatch would occur, but they could be sending R3D trims from the original sequence. Could be a project timebase mismatch even. .RMD aren't needed and wouldn't effect the clip duration or footage itself. Those are metadata if anything has been modified to the REDCODE RAW since acquisition.

Señor Phil,

Thanks for the answer. If that is the case, yes they are clips from the original. Would you suggest any workflow that those clips could be generated? Sorry for the newbie question, but I am not an editor. I truly appreciate your answer Señor Phil. I just want to sort this hiccup.

Kind regards,

Manuel Rey

The only workflow where the REDCODE RAW files may be generated is if they are R3D Trims to shorten the takes. Otherwise, RAW is RAW data and can't be edited in any other way. Metadata via the .RMD can be carried over with lossless adjustments, but the RAW data is intact.

I think the mismatch might be how they generated the timecode for the clips perhaps, I've seen studios get that wrong with a few cameras, usually due to automation of some sort.

Hello Phil,

Thanks a lot for your explanation.

Kind regards,

Manuel Rey
