  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Workstation Build - i7 X99, Titan X, Overclocking...

No I dont. I have not seen some of those settings here in any bios but we havnt tested the 2 port card for a while and it didn't work then.

If I Load Optimized Defaults, it switches back to the previous settings. But after a restart the new interface comes up again...

I noticed that the Thunderbolt Host Chip changed from Falcon Ridge to Cactus Ridge, Falcon Ridge being the last one for TB2. It's like if it recognizes my card as a Thunderbolt 1 now instead of Thunderbolt 2.

Well we tested the 1802 bios on the Deluxe 3.1 and it has issues so we still use the 1702 version. I would suggest contacting Asus and see if they have a beta bios for the model you have since the 1502 version is 4 versions back from the latest on the Deluxe. They dont always stay at the same pace between models of the same chipset but often times they are close. If not then roll back to the previous bios if it fixed the 2 port Thunderbolt card.

Oh ok interesting, what's the best way to contact Asus for this kind of request?

Good news! I was really starting thinking that it could be an hardware problem, I reseated the card in the slot, and tada, all settings are back to normal and drives are working... It's like only the TB header was plugged to the motherboard. Sorry for all those messages but if it can help someone.

Thank you Eric for your dedication I appreciate!

The Thunderbolt settings remain as long as the cable is still plugged in even if the card is not. I have never seen them change when you did that. I am glad it worked but there still may be firmware issues. Just making you aware.

Got it, hopefully they release a new firmware soon. Btw, do you recommend to already upgrade to Windows 10 or is it smarter to wait?

Currently adding the Areca 1883i SAS Adapter in the workstation, does it have to be in the first PCIE slot? For me the only option is to use the 2nd slot:

1: GTX Titan X SC (PCIe 3.0 x16_1)
2: Areca 1883i (PCIe 3.0 x8_2)
3: ---- (PCIe 2.0 x4_1)
4: GTX Titan X SC (PCIe 3.0 x16/8_3)
5: ---- (PCIe 2.0 x1_1)
6: Thunderbolt EX II Dual (PCIe 3.0 x8_4)

I don't see the Areca
McBIOS RAID Manager message at boot, my screen stays black and I got a beep every 5 seconds from the Areca adapter forever, any ideas?

No, only the WS board requires the Thunderbolt card in slot 2 which often put the raid controller n slot 1. You need to make sure the Raid controller is in a slot that is getting 8x bandwidth. That should be all.

I made it to work after few CMOS reset, Asus also released a new BIOS firmware update (1601) that is supposed to improve stability. I'm currently initializing my RAID volume, 3% in 15min, it will take a while haha! I did RAID 6 like Jeff. I will take some pictures of the workstation so you guys can see the finale build. Thanks again Eric.

Running Windows 10 with latest Nvidia drivers for past 48 hours under various tests and seems all prior issues are fixed with the mouse and random reboots.

Trying to get back into things here after a major hiatus... Have moved a couple systems over to Win10 and do find that a fresh install is the way to go over an upgrade. I will probably do a full Win10 install on my X99 build of this thread in the next week or so. I'm so swamped with other things right now. ;)

Octave, that looks like you ended up with a nice build. Glad you have it working.
