We it may be time to upgrade to the new MBP since I have now resorted to cooling down the bottom by setting it on freezer pops:emote_headwall:

(its very scary but actually works pretty well :) )

I find a little desk fan in the right area does a pretty good job, although not exactly ideal.

Haha, great. I'm having this problem now adays too. I've just been propping my Macbook Pro up on a little cardboard box so air can flow underneath the body. I was considering getting one of those fan-based cooling pads for it, but no sure what ones out there are decent.

Two rows of my kids lego taped together are permanent runners under my laptop.
(same style as you freezer pops)
Really helps air to circulate.

On the laptop coolers (of those that use fans for that purpose rather than a bag of frozen peas), the only one I've found effective is the Belkin which is very simple -- doesn't fold, doesn't use metal, doesn't try to look cool or light up (I tried all those ) and instead of sucking air away, blows air against the bottom and it vents out the sides. It's not elegant but very effective, lowering CPU and hard drive by 20-25 F. Cost about $20. Mine has probably been on an average of 60 hours a week for two years running and has been all over the world. Not silent, but I kind of like the white noise as it tends to mask distractions in strange places like the scampering of roaches and the shuffling of overhead feet and the crying baby in 23F being comforted by the embarrassed mother.
