  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New V-mount battery plate

They are a very good company and well-respected maybe not here but in the DSLR world. They are new to the world of RED, so most users don't know them.

I wish them the best of luck.

I saw their prices, I think they are too expensive.

I hope you are comparing apples to apples? There are quite a few battery manufactures out there. If you are going to compare make sure you are getting quality cell techology inside. Most of the time, you are paying for the technology and hopfully, better battery cells made by high standards. Heard of exploding batteries or not working on set because the battery life is dead. Not sure this company you mentioned is good they probably are; should be fine. Just be careful.

You don't want cheap out on batteries...it powers your whole unit and stuff. There are reason why high end batteries cost the way they do.

Ask the Pros.

I didn't realize MG1 was giving a free detachable mounting plate with preorders. Good thing is, the third party market is seeing some competition - which is good for all of us.

Agreed. It seems like now there are more options. Not saying its cheaper but more options. I shouldn't of said "Free", its an Introductory Pre-order special that eventually will be sold as one like a package deal.

Sasha,

Just to clarify...I apologize if this has been addressed...
I spoke with Ryan at Wooden today. I confirmed that the V-Mount plate WILL need the Quick Back for $199 AND the IDX Battery Back for $79.

So the assembly order for the V-Mount is as follows...Epic/Scarlett < Quick Back > IDX Battery Back > IDX Plate < Battery...for a total of $598.

And YES, With the no charge plate promo, MGI is the most affordable at $499, then Swit at $598, then VF at $699.

Just FYI...If anyone is concerned with additional tax, Swit is in TX and VF is here in CA.

One thing to keep in mind is customer service, VF has called me for any issues or questions and are open to sharing benchmark status.

Hope this helps.

I'll toss in a positive review on the Wooden Camera Quick Back. Slick design and very high quality. Ryan shipped extremely quickly and I used it on my Scarlet for about half of the day after it arrived.

I got an e-mail that they are shipping the plate. Cool. Also, it seems they are now selling higher end batteries. They seem to have some good brands like BlueShape. Ketch Rossi uses them I read on his thread.

What options are available for using Gold Mount batteries on Scarlet?

When the detachable plate arrives, can you buy it separately?

I was told you can. Looks like something pretty cool coming down their pipe.

Looks like they are the only ones that has those Lemo connectors in stock, if you are looking for a battery plate.

Seems like their Detachable plate is coming out soon. That's what they told us.

Looking forward to it.

Interesting that Ava Grace and Michael Burns, both vocal MGI advocates, joined REDuser on the same day. What a coincidence!

I just got mine. All I can say is "Awesome". Thanks Gary

Anyone tried this setup?

Anyone tried this setup?

Hey guys, just got my Scarlet a couple of weeks ago and been looking at batteries and connectors. Think i am going for this combination:

APU-IDX Battery Plate $699 http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/products/epic-scarlet-acc/idx-apu.html
Beillen BL-BP95 Li-ion Battery x 2 $460 http://www.beillen.tv/V-Mount-Batteries/Beillen-BL-BP95-Li-ion-battery
Beillen BLB1703-BP2E Li-ion Charger $279 http://www.beillen.tv/V-Mount-Chargers-and-adapters

Total comes to $1438

Anyone tried this setup or any of the items individual?

Cheers

Mark

Mark, I have Viewfactor's APU (for AB mount) and love it. I wouldn't, however, recommend those beillen batteries, as their max power output is 54w and the Scarlet draws 60. You'll really be reducing the lifespan of your batteries if you go with those. I'd suggest something rated for 60-70w draw, more in line with the Anton Bauer Dionic HC. Granted, two of them are about $1200, but there's a reason why.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply Trevor, so maybe something more along the line of these

Hey Mark,

I don't have the AB plate (coming soon) but their V-mount is top notch. Build quality is excellent. What I love about MG1's V-mount wt D-plate is that you can attach the darn thing everywhere. It has 15 - 1/4-20" holes so you can mount it on the top, side, back and bottom with using clamps or 15/19mm rods clamps.

Also, they did Custom etching of my plate...that's pretty cool for free since I was one of their early Pre-order customers. Nice touch.

I've been checking out their batteries too like the one you are talking about (89) with good review; so far. Just waiting for some cash to come in to make the dive.

Can't say enough about their dedication and service.
