  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New V-mount battery plate

I've heard those RED Lemo connectors are expensive and they are hard to find. What I heard from users here, they are only for the RED camera - Epic & Scarlet. So, you can imagine the headache to find and to secure a large amount of connectors if you have the $$$$ to do so. What I would expect that RED and other third party sellers are buying them up when released.

Yes, they are but they are quality connectors. I wish RED bought American type connectors. Keep the money here and more availability too.

I think what you guys are missing is that this $499 plate will require another plate to mount on the camera body, so it's not an all in one solution yet.

From the site:
Mounting options – Detachable plate – Coming soon

With Detachable plate, it will be flush with back of camera.

As said earlier, just get Brook's. It's an all in one, ready to go solution.

Exactly.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Yes, it is one solution. Just because the detachable plate isn't ready yet, doesn't mean its not one. Please get your facts right. Not every Scarlet owner has their camera yet and doesn't need to have it now. If they do, they have another choice. Is that a problem? We see you both (you & Trevor) like V/Factors, great.

Again, this is another battery solution and its bit cheaper for cash strapped owners. I'm not sure why you both keep on pitching theirs. They have their own thread. Go there!!! You don't see users posting on their thread about MG1 Concepts' products, do you?

I'm glad their is another option. I was quite shocked that RED doesn't have one currently since their Epic cameras has been out for some time.

"isn't much options."

Aren't many. :)

Thought other Scarlet owners would appreciate this little nimble of info. I belong to other forums especially Cinema5D and it seems one of their sponsors is starting to gear up for the new Scarlet with a V-mount battery plate. I know like myself, buying the Scarlet with all sorts of accessories isn't cheap...you need to buy all sorts of extras before you can use the camera. So, this may help you save some dough since their isn't much power options for Scarlet nor Epic cameras out there.

They haven't posted prices nor availability but you could inquiry about it. They did tell me it will be reasonably priced and will hopefully begin shipping as early as next week or the week after. Cool.

You can check out their website:

www.mg1concepts.com

or the link were I read it with more info about their up-coming RED products:

If budget is the main concern, the least expensive option out there that I've seen would be the Switronix plate ($329):
http://www.abelcine.com/store/Switronix-GP-S-EPIC-V-mount-Plate-for-RED-Epic-Scarlet/

Granted - it has no way of mounting to the back of the camera, but like I said, if budget is the main concern it's the cheapest option I've seen.

As far as MG1concepts goes - it looks like a good plate, but I have to agree with some of the posts here, it doesn't seem to be a big difference in price from what's already out there.
I don't think anyone was saying it's a bad product - only that once you add in the cost of a mounting plate the price is probably going to be very close (if not equal) to the VF plate.

MG1's V-mount or AB battery plate is the most affordable solution so far. The price difference is about $200 from VF plate plus you are getting a free Detachable plate. So, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Both companies products offer great products. Its up the the Owner/buyer to decide if they want to save some money.

By the way, that Switronix plate isn't available yet...

I didn't realize MG1 was giving a free detachable mounting plate with preorders.
What I was saying was that once you added the price of a mounting plate the price would probably be about the same - but if you preorder now I guess you're right, it is $200 cheaper than the VF solution for the time being.

Though again, if price is the biggest concern, then I would just wait for the Switronix plate which is going to be almost about $170 less than the MG1 plate.

Good thing is, the third party market is seeing some competition - which is good for all of us.

Hi Luis,

I heard that rumor too but that's without detachable plate. MG1's is one solution package.

Tho the intent here might have been to call attention to one specific brand of Mount, I personally appreciate the back-and-forth about Other models here too. More choices and info about those choices can only help us all. I have to say that for all the permutations of gear I am trying to assemble for my Scarlet, the V-mount/battery issue has been the most vexing. Mostly I think because originally there was either very expensive OE options or cheap off-the-shelf-but-not-ready-for-Epic (Scarlet) compromises. Third parties are stepping up. The Market is speaking. Thanks for the ongoing discussions!

so this could be the cheapest turnkey-solution to power the scarlet for over 4 hours recording:

160.00 Dynacore D-2S 2-channel Charger with AC Adaptor
244.00 Globalmediapro Li160S Lithium ion Battery 160WH
244.00 Globalmediapro Li160S Lithium ion Battery 160WH
500.00 MG1 Scarlet V-mount Pro Battery plate

Right? Am I missing anything?

The Switronix plate will be available in quantity in a week or two (holiday schedules). There will also be a couple of different mounting options. One that is already available is to use a Zacuto Zwiss Plate, which will accept the Switronix plate and will then mount directly to lightweight 15mm rods either above or below. More options coming in days.

Zacuto Zwiss Plate:

The Zwiss plate is brilliant. My favorite thing Zacuto makes.

Not just for people who need a battery plate, but also as a riser for people using DSLRs and other cameras that aren't sturdy enough to support their own top rods. Until the riser-only part I'm designing appears, that is. Then you should all buy that instead :P

I'm shocked Zacuto hasn't released a 19mm version. Seems like there's a market.

You wouldn't need two plates - I think Stu was just saying that the Switronix would be the cheapest option (which seemed to be what you were going for).
Of course the trade off would be you would not have a mounting plate for it - so you would have to figure out a way to mount it, or use it on a belt clip or something like that.

I've been talking to MG1, they will be selling more Pro batteries soon and they mentioned it will be posted on their website in the next few days.

So far, the are selling the Italian brand - BlueShape and two additional brands to add their mix. They didn't say who. They also mentioned package deals for those cash strapped Scarlet owners or even Epic owners too.

They really seem to care about independent filmmakers and the struggles so many face in this industry of making movies.

Very cool.
