  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Tilta dsmc2 rigs

I was hoping to get a tilta rig before I upgraded to DSMC2. Doesn't look like that will be happening, and will get a red expander.

The one thing I noticed that Tilta doesn't seem to show much of since NAB 2017 is this one:

Is this off the table now? I noticed they have one similar to the look of this, but without XLR/TC/Genlock Inputs.

This company does Not play fair - cart is a rip of copy as many things they do.... Good customer suport?......

I did not think their cart was a copy of any other cart I've seen..... I would've already bought a cart like that if I saw it.

And does anyone know if it's a proper 15mm Studio offset?

thanks.

It's 15mm LWS, not Studio.

I don't know what Arri dovetail dimensions are off the top of my head, but the inside dimension of the channel is 2 5/16" at the widest part, tapering to 2 1/4". I'd guess this dovetail: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/992649-REG/ikan_tt_c16_10_lightweight_dovetail_plate.html

I asked IKAN about the DSMC2 rig, specifically the 15mm LWS baseplate part of that rig. Here's the response that I got: "Ikan doesn't currently have access to this rig or its components, though we are working on getting a prototype for market testing now that NAB is over and done with. It is a work in progress, and we want to make sure this rig is right for our market, so please bear with us while we work on bringing this product officially into the US."

Odd... considering I just posted a photo of mine above.

Great! Can I ask where you got yours? I've been looking all over.

I got it with the ESR-T01-E cage. I got it on eBay in November. Looks like they have a couple up there now. The photos are all wrong, though. You have to scroll down to the E cage breakout photo in the middle of the listing. It looks like this:

There's two D-tap ports, a 2-pin lemo 14.8v, and a 3 pin record/stop on the other side of the top plate. The pogo passes through the top plate and it comes with the pogo cable so you can move the monitor around. I have mine mounted on on a Zacuto ZicroMount and a Redrock MicroSpud so I can quick disconnect off the top of the camera and onto a Zacuto Zamerican.

I got the ESR-T01-B a week ago now. This is the one with the full size XLRs and so many power ports its crazy.

I haven't fully had a chance to test it out too much but from initial impressions i do like it. The finish and build quality is really good. Love the functionality of it all. Love the black finish.

There are a lot of parts included. Didn't take me long to put it all together and the handle is great even includes its own camera trigger on there. The quick connect contacts work well.

There is a fan on the bottom of the unit. That is quite noisy. No more than the camera but might have some sound issues.

I can't get Phantom Power to work on it at the moment through the XLRs, now that might be the camera or the rig i don't know. I am waiting on an answer from Tilta.

Need to do more tests.

Just got my Tilta ESR-T01-B Cage in. I'm having same issue.... I can't turn on 48v Phantom Power

Hmm... Mine has some funky stuff going on with the SDI outputs. Every second or third time I plug in the cable, the signal will become all scrambled or have sort of "sparkly" pixels. It was doing it on my shoot today. Sometimes I'd have to plug+unplug the cable several times for the signal to become clear again. It did this across multiple cables.

Another minor, but annoying, quirk is that the V-mount apparently doesn't transfer battery data to the camera? I have PAGlinks and they don't report time remaining or percentage like they did on my RED I/O module. Any thoughts?

Others who are having issues (such as the XLR phantom power): how are you going about getting these fixed? I have a 14 day return window... Not sure if I should take it up.

Received this info from an ebay seller

At the moment Tilta factory does not open the 3 pin XLR for 48V power. But that will not affect using the Microphone using 3-pin XLR. Customer can use battery to power the Microphone.

When Tilta open the 48V power in future, we can arrange customer return the part to be exchanged.
