New Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8

Readshark is posting the price at $799.00

Why rehouse? Just get EFF and you are ready. Enough with this rehouse nonsense- it's 2013 you know:beer:

Hi Jacek, wil this lens work with the Optitron? Say yes, i can't wait!!!
Best Robert

Hum Nice lens.. but Not Full frame :(

you bet it will work- I'll make sure of that. BTW this lens is much like the OptiTron /Prolock System- no competition on the market- absolute leading edge...

Good to hear!! Happy waiting for your delivery! I will tell the world ! :-)

I just pre-ordered mine!

Nice, i was expecting a higher price. Makes it easier to swallow the "not-FF/6k-ready"-pill. I can't wait to see how it performs compared to a Canon 16-35II on a RED.

Has anyone determined how much it will vignette on a current 5K sensor ?

I'll wager it will do a bit better than the 17-55mm because EF-S has a smaller image circle than Nikon's DX and this lens is designed for both.

What I'm curious about is the t-stop. The 17-55mm Canon is apparently a t3.4; Tokina 11-16mm is a t3 24-70mm II is a t3; etc. If the Sigma is a true t2 I might lose my Samyang primes and 17-55mm IS from my kit. I'm a big zoom fan now that I've given up on intent and moved onto efficiency. :)

If they release a 50-135mm f1.8 or something in addition I'll just be too happy. Might as well hit the order button now on this one, though.

Just received my Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 today that I pre-ordered from Samy's camera a few weeks ago. Was surprised to receive a shipping notification about the order last week since BH has these lenses listed as being available July 31st I believe and all vendors including Samy's still list it as pre-order only. Maybe stock is trickling in and they are still pre-back-ordered but shipping as they arrive.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised about the coverage. Just received it an hour ago so I've only tested briefly. Mainly I tested it on my Sony FS700 with speedbooster, which effectively has about a 33x18.6mm sensor due to the effect of the speedbooster, which is a lot bigger than MX5K and bigger than even DRAGON 6K will be. I don't doubt the lens will cover MX 5K through its range, and most likely it will even cover DRAGON 6k with minimal vignetting. On my FS700+SB, it shows hard vignetting at 18-21mm, dark soft vignetting at 21-24mm, and what I'd call "acceptable" and decreasing vignetting 24-35mm. I'd say on that camera system the lens covers from 24-35mm which is really 16-24mm f1.3 on the S35 FS700 due to the effect of the speedbooster.

So far the lens seems pretty awesome, quite sharp wide open, even mounted on my speedbooster at f1.3 :)

The circular aperture seems to be more consistent in shape at different focal lengths and apertures than some of my other lenses and a lot of other still lenses I've tried, which is a plus, though it is not as perfectly circular stopped down as some real cine lenses.

It appears to be as parfocal as any still zoom I've seen, which is pretty acceptably parfocal but not exactly parfocal if you look really closely at critical focus. I heard this lens may have some distortion but I haven't really tested that yet.

I am a bit biased toward Sigma as I own mostly Sigma since I really like their look and performance compared to most of the other still lens manufacturers that are still making lenses, and the prices are very nice. It is definitely a welcome addition to my lens set (24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 50mm f1.4, all sigma plus a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 which is starting to feel less and less needed).

I imagine this lens along with a focal reducer will make a lot of MFT/BMCC users very happy...
