  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Scarlet REDMAG SSD?

A quote from Jarred:

"Nothing new to add.. We had to re certify the bigger mags remember. it went up to 48GB and have finished testing.. there is actually a few extra gigabytes that showed up along the way for free .. But we will continue to sell them as 48GB.

Will hit the store still on 9/28... imagine that... still on time! :)"

Really interesting, thanks for sharing that!

Yeah, very interesting post, have missed that. Thanks for sharing. So instead of cheap 32gb-cards we will get cheap 48gb-cards with a few gb more than 48? That sounds really amazing.

About how much record time do you get at 48gb at 4K, 2K etc?

Approximately.

4K 6:1 = 16 minutes
4K 8:1 = 21 minutes
3K 6:1 = 28 minutes
3K 8:1 = 37 minutes
2K 6:1 = 53 minutes
2K 8:1 = 84 minutes

Thanks Phil, what kind of quality would one get at 2K 8:1?

I recommend shooting at the lowest RedCode compression ratio possible for your target frame rate when going to lower resolutions. 8:1 is not that, but you can get decent results at 8:1. 5:1/6:1 are good choices as well. It's best to test things out before you go into action so you know what you like.

The only true advantage of 2K over 3K is disk space/recording time and slightly more frames per second. Personally I go with 3K/48fps for slow motion work on Scarlet as it scales well up to 4K and scales down to a "crisper" 2k/1080p.

I haven't shot a single 1080p/2K frame this year for a job, some have finished in 1080p but I shot at higher resolution. I bought the Scarlet for the 4K and raw.

That was great Phil, very helpful.
I will be tinkering with the options and test till I know what works for me.
I am so glad this size was released.
