  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Scarlet Case

It's just a beefed up version of the box it came in. Same foam with a metal case. It's nice for just the camera, but most people probably need more space for other stuff inside.

A Pelican 1510 for all your accessories and that scarlet case for the camera wouldn't be a bad combination. I like everything in my 1510, but a little extra protection for the camera wouldn't be a bad thing.

The Scarlet's need to start shipping in these boxes like the EPIC X does.

Damn those laser cut cases look smick! But in my little Indie budget land, I just bought 3 Pelican case knock offs, named CraftRight - from Bunnings.

They are Black - 515(mm)L x 435D x 225H - with hard Pelican style plastic casing, heavy duty latches, 45mm of pluck and pick foam, and 2 x 45mm soft foam and it also has a layer of egg carton foam on top. They are lockable. Water "resistant" air tight, dust proof. They have an 'O' ring seal, but I like to qualify what "water resistant" gets me, so I just placed it under the shower running very heavy but not so hard that it just bounces off and gave it a goodly soaking, and also spent a good minute turning the case so that all the seems got a serious head on soaking. Towelled off the outside and...

Very impressive. Some small beading only on the "outer" edge of the O ring only and not a drip made it past where the O ring meets the plastic edging and into the case.
So while I wouldn't exactly build a lens port in it and take my Scarlet surfing. Water resistant is a more than fair claim, and I feel very confident this will serve my kit well.
Note: I will also give this test to all three to make sure I get the same response. If I don't I will modify my post accordingly.

When empty, it won't be as pretty once I finish shaping the foam beneath the pick and pluck, but with kit in it will look pretty smick.
Place one next to a Pelican, not too much difference and for $65 a piece? I'm a very happy film maker.

For the $30,000+ that I put in each pelican case, I'd rather have them be real pelican cases than knockoffs, personally...

I've never had a genuine Pelican fail me. I've had knockoffs fail me, and it ain't pretty.

Pelican might be practical, but I love those RED cases... just really look awesome!
And then I have the pelican for the Acc... ;)

The good thing about the Pelican 1510 is that it's deliberately carry-on size. I will also use a 1510 but will just get the changeable inserts. There will almost always be something different to take or leave behind from shoot to shoot and I won't be locked in by pre-cut inserts.

Jeffrey, you instinct is politeness, which is great, but you need not worry about offending the folks to whom you gave $15K for something they hadn't even made yet!

No offense to the RED case, but for nearly the same price you can get this. Jason is a really cool guy as well. I'd stay posted to his site for upcoming stuff!

Arnold. I'm assuming you mean my camera...I've already gotten my camera, but unfortunately it's back at RED already. I've been talking to Jason alot about a potential trade of gear and to hear his ideas and what he's doing is awesome. Just figured I'd throw his in the ring.

The cinema oxide case is great, I got it cause it has a little more room for accessories then RED's. Only problem with this case is my top handle and easy stick won't find in the accessories spot unless I cut some foam spacing. Other then that its the best custom case for the value.

I just picked up a new Pelican 1510 case from Amazon here for about $153. w/ free shipping. I'll move the pre-cut foam that came in the Scarlet box into the 1510, just pick-n-pluck the foam in the 1510 to fit it.

Might be the most affordable way to get Pelican quality and (some) pre-cut foam (then pick-n-pluck the rest to fit your accessories. (By the way, my rep showed me how you can also pluck the pre-cut foam from the box the Scarlet-X comes in to make space for the side handle. Fits perfectly.)

That cinemaoxide case looks sweet... I'd seriously consider it if I hadn't just bought this from Amazon... but this is also an even more affordable option.
The RED cases do look awesome, but I want to carry accessories with my brain!
