Hi all,

I didn't want you guys to have to wait any longer for our Retina Macbook & latest Mac Mini fix while we finish our internal testing, so here it is for you guys to try:

Please let us know how this works! If all goes well we will be posting this up on the support site some time tomorrow.

Thanks,

Question, I'm on OS X 10.8.1. Do you think it would be safer to update the drivers and firmware in 10.8.1 or 10.8.2, or no difference?

EDIT: Nevermind. I updated the driver and firmware under 10.8.1 so I could test it in 10.8.1 first, which worked with no issues. Just updated to 10.8.2 and testing.

Thanks

Thanks, Rob. Initial testing on my end looks very good! I am currently testing with a brand new MacMini and was able to transcode a 4K 2.33:1 clip at slightly better than realtime (the clip is 3.5 minutes and the transcode to ProRes 4444 1920x1080 took just 2 minutes and 17 seconds).

Playback of 4K material seems pretty smooth, with an occasional stutter. At "half" quality playback is smooth so far. Most importantly, no crashes yet.

Please note - there's nothing scientific about my test. I'm simply loading the clips I have on hand with the drives I have on hand and using my phone as a stopwatch. The point is - it's working!

I also have a 13" MacBook Pro Retina on hand that I'm about to test in the same manner as well. I will post right away if I see any significantly different results.

Thanks again,

- Jordan

Yes, this makes the Rocket work in 10.8.2 when using a Thunderbolt enclosure. My computer, a 15" Retina MBP, said the supplemental 2.0 update wasn't compatible with my system, so I just have the 1st supplemental update installed. So my Rocket is now working in 10.8.2 with no issues so far. I will say that the FCPX performance with R3D's leaves a lot to be desired. I get very noticeably better performance in Premiere Pro CS6 than FCPX, even when selecting the better performance option in FCPX (which I can't see a difference in quality compared with the high quality option).

So update version 2 is a no no.

The App Store tells me to "update" to "Supplemental Update 2.0" on my both a new MacMini as well as a MacBook Pro Retina. Sorry, Apple, I'm just too scared!

I only just got my REDRocket working again on these systems (I am using the Sonnet Echo Express Pro chassis as well as the Sonnet xMac Mini Server Chassis - the previous issues affected both products and were resolved a few hours ago today).

If anybody has tested the new REDRocket drivers today with 'SUP 2.0' please be sure to let us know. Thanks!

Best,

- Jordan

I haven't been able to try this but we better hurry because there's a 10.8.3 update just around the corner and we can be in a bag of hurt again soon. 10.8.2 is essential to upgrade to the recent FCPX 10.0.6 (for those on Mountain Lion)

I wanted to check why my Retina MBP won't let me install the supplemental 2.0 update and found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1633 Only certain Macs need it, and the 15" Retina isn't one of them (even though the 13" Retina MBP is... odd). The update is just to fix something with the Keychain, so I'd be surprised if it prevented the Rocket from working.
