  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New research: sensors that cannot overexpose

I had this theory for years, though because I'm not a scientist I couldn't of course realize it. But the core of it was that I didn't understand why every new sensor tech must deal with the whole exposure and not just divide up the image through individual pixels respons through the DR range.

Good to see that real scientists actually managed to do it.

Yup, this is a sensitive (pun intended) way to capture more dynamics without having to increase bit-depth/file-size infinitely.

RED has a few times alluded to being involved in some "really great sensor tech", when asked about non cmos capture tech.

THIS makes total sense.
But probably not practically in a while.

Pixim has done it for many years with their sensors.
I still have somewhere their development kit camera. Now of course thy are owned by Sony

When bandwidth on the recording side is high enough I think it would not be so difficult for red to up their HDRx tech to something that is more like HDRxxx or something. Simply dump the result from the sensor at multiple times while filling the photo sites. And by doing so provide the options in post to better control exposure. As it is now with A and B it´s a bit limited but if they had A,B,C,D and F or something well then it would be something else.
