Ever since the Nov. 30th announcement, I find that I only get 10 threads to a page and a max of 10 pages. Unfortunately, 100 threads is not enough if you are not constantly checking up on the forum, so I know I have been missing some posts that were of value.

Is there a way I can reset my preferences or otherwise alter this situation?

Been meaning to ask this too...

I have theories

I sent J-land a PM a while back asking about this but never got an answer. I have a feeling it was because the searches were bogging down the server. I hope they can change it back...

It seemed to happen when the board was slammed with the Epic announcement. I'm assuming it was some kind of optimization. Now that the site isn't so slammed I'd like to see it reverted back as well.

The limits only apply to the new posts page. If you surf section by section from the Reduser main page, everything thread is still viewable all the way back to 2006.

When I hit the "New Posts" button, I would like to see all the new posts. Call me funny that way. I recall retuning from a week's vacation to find something like 70 pages of new post threads. A lot to slog through, but at least I didn't miss anything.

I second the requests, Its almost anoying haveing ten or so subject per page on the new threads....

Any way to add a drop-down that at the bottom of the threads view that says "view 10, 25, 100, at a time"?

if 100 threads with 10 posts average each per day is not enough for you, you are seriously not challenging yourself in other areas of your life. meet a girl, buy a book, go to a movie, make a movie, learn a new skill, work out, travel, drive your car somewhere, get on a train, a bus...if you really pay attention if something is very important it will be here for days and days as everyone and their brother will want to chime in...if it is/was not that important and no one cares or it does not add to the goal of educating and informing, then it will be gone...

or else go through each sub category and read the top ten posts or the ones that were updated today.

personally i love the new layout makes it very easy to catch up in 5 minutes.

Some are very busy RED owners who work a lot.

Some are working their way up and spending a lot of time at REDUser sounds fine to me.

And I'm sure Mitch is in another category...

:biggrin5:

On a serious note, what really bugs me is the limited number of threads per page. In the past I'd use to go to page 2 at best, now I'm going all the way to page 6... Is it really easier on the server?

Is it really easier on the server?

When you do a search (such as 'show new posts') the time the server took to process the request is shown in the top right corner under the page numbers.

For example, loading the 10 most recent unread posts took 0.02 seconds just now. On a normal day with (presumably) a few hundred simultaneous users that is no big deal.

On announcement days, such as December 1 when there were 16,086 people on the site at once, simple searches like that become more of an issue. The server can cache fully rendered copies of thread pages and the like to server them quickly, but searches have to be generated live requiring processing power and hundreds of database queries.

I'm not an expert on the system used by RedUser, but it may be possible to generate a static version of 'show new posts' every few minutes and serve that up to everyone instead of building a customized one each time someone hits the button.

Anyway, I can live with RedUser in it's current state. I'd rather have them spend their time building cameras.
